Protecting from wildlife

Hi we live in the Forest of Dean and have to deal with free range sheep, deer and of course rabbits, we have a protected allotment but want to grow more potatoes, Swede and onions does any one know if the deer and sheep will eat these and if so what type of fencing would be appropriate. We are relatively new to growing our own so would appreciate any help.

I'd be extremely surprised if they didn't eat them. Are there wild boar round your way? Deer fencing needs to be high to stop them jumping over. I'm not the person to advise on the details, though I've got memories of climbing over overhanging barbed wire getting over Forestry Commission fences!

deer fences are 7 foot high, split chestnut  type. what type of deer you got up there??(I love bambi steak) ;D ;D

Welcome to the site GavinH, can't help you with the deer but I know rabbits and sheep like swede, used as animal food. Glad I don't have those raging hordes to contend with on my lotties!  ;D

Hello and welcome Gavin, yeah deer are expensive to keep out you need a high fence or wire cloche everything........still expensive :(

If you have wild boar..........they'll make short work of cloches.

I dont know how to advise really. Are there no other plot holders that would have a better idea in your area?
