A very quick question really.  I usually use about 1 tsp dried tarragon in my soup - I have had to get fresh tarragon as I cannot find any dried ...........so how much should I use?  Half a teaspoon?  Thanks for your help in advance.

I'd put about a tablespoon (chopped) if it was me .... It's quite delicious!!

Thanks pippy.  I assumed that as it was fresh I'd only need half as much.  I love it - I don't think many have really tried it.  I use it in my carrot soup instead of coriander now.  Also it is great in a cream sauce over chicken.............dribble dribble  ::) ;D

I went through a fad of using it to make courgette and tarragon soup a few years back ... then I mved house and our local shops don't stock it so your post was a reminder!  Must seek it out sometime.

I'd grow it but it isn't frost hardy I gather  .... maybe one day when I have a greenhouse (dream dream ....)
;D ;D :

I always use less if it's dried. The flavour is more concentrated. Fresh is so much nicer. I grow it and chop and freeze it in an ice cube tray. I find one cube is enough for a good flavour, so if you have any left you could always do that. ;)
P.s. Mine comes up every year, grown against a south facing wall. It's French tarragon.
Smile, it confuses people.

I love courgettes and courgette soup..................roll on summer when I can try some with tarragon.  Thanks pippy.  PS. I got this fresh stuff in Waitrose - it was reduced so...................

I was wondering if I could freeze it emagggie.  I will do the ice cube thing with what's left - I got two packs so there should be plenty.   I go to France a lot so I will look out for a plant to bring home - got to be worth a try.

It's not too bad frozen 'as is'.

Asd to blocks, I would need it more in oil than water - for Tarragon Chicken etc.

If you buy any more fresh tarragon, use some of the sprigs as cuttings. That's how I got my plants.  It roots quite easily. ;D

No water added Tim. If you add oil, do you keep it in jars? Also what sort of oil would be best to use?

Misread you - when you said ice I immediately thought of water - like some folk use for Mint. Therefore no argument.

If I did use oil. I would use Olive, but I'm no guru on this!
