hi does anyone have a small amt of meadow seed mix they can pass on to me. i only need enough to cover a 4ft square area.

i haven't got alot to swap at the moment (what i do have I'm keeping for the big swaps I'm on), but if you are into growing wild flowers i do have self sown young plants of foxglove, lady's mantle, bugle, viola and possibly some young Mullen plants (i may need to search these out as I'm not sure if my OH weeded these out ::)). i may have other self sown wild flower plants around that may be surplus to requirements, please ask and i will go have a look in the garden. now that i think about it i also have lots of saved seeds of some annual wild flower plants/ herbs which weren't ear marked for the swaps, so ask and I'll check my boxes ;).

i know there are different meadow seed mixes to go with different soil types, my soil type would be fertile clay but I'm I'm happy to have any mix.

thanks for reading my post.

I have some wild scabious seeds I collected this summer. My garden just isnt suitable for meadow flowers. You are welcome to some if you like.

If you have a couple of Foxglove seedlings to spare I would be ever so happy ;D ;D
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Hi Star I would be happy to send you some fox glove seedlings in exchange for some of your seed, I still have your address in my messages do you need me to pm you with mine?

Since no one seems to have any meadow mix to spare, does any one have the following seeds which are part of a commercial meadow mix for fertile clay soils. I've left out the ones I do have but these are the seeds I do need to complete the mixture: Cowslip, Eyebright, Fleabane, Lesser Knapweed, Meadowsweet, Ox-eye Daisy, Purple Loosestrife, Ragged Robin, Sorrel, St Johnswort, Yellow Agrimony and Yellow Rattle. And I would like some red poppies too.

Again I have the same young wildflower plants as I mentioned before to swap.

Thanks again for reading my request.

Im so pleased you can make use of them ;D

I'm not sure the type of sorrel i need it was listed in a commercial mix but it didn't state the actual type. I'll be happy to have a little to add to my homemade mixture :).

LLB i never received the seakale seeds i assumed they were going to be from this years saved seed and when i didn't hear from you i thought that the seeds weren't viable with this years wet weather.

littlebabybird

ok, i will send you some more seakale seeds,
i have sorrel that we use in soups and salads, its a kind of sharp lemony taste leafy thing
i can put some of them in as well,
did you want okra seeds as well?
i have loads of self saved ones of those as well

lbb

pm me your address again :)

That sorrel is very tasty and scrummy. I think TM may be talking of sheeps sorrel for a meadow mix.......but Im not sure :)

thifasmom

LLB I'll be glad for the seakale and the ochro seeds as i plan to try yet again with it next year ::), i am obviously a glutton for punishment :-\.

i really am not sure which sorrel the mix should contain but just did a search on both types and i think Star is correct. at the risk of sounding greedy may i still have some of the sorrel you offered as well, i can always plant it in my herb bed as a come again crop. is it invasive at all?

is there any flower type herbs you might be interested in, let me know and i could check and see if i have what you might be after.

i'll pm you my addy and thanks very much for your generosity.

trinity

will send you the (I have to much of ) swap first and will put the seed in there if that's ok with you will save me going to the post office twice  ::)

thifasmom

sounds like a good plan Trinity, as Tesco says every little bit helps ;).

thifasmom

Hi all a quick bump and update on my cheeky request. OK this is what i needed according to my soil type but as i said before i would be happy to receive any left over mixture on offer :).

what i have got or been offered i have crossed out:

Cowslip,

Devil's Bit Scabious,

Eyebright,

Fleabane,

Lesser Knapweed,

Meadowsweet,

Ox-eye Daisy,

Purple Loosestrife,

Ragged Robin,

Selfheal,

Sheep's Sorrel,

St Johnswort,

Water Avens,

Wild Angelica (to big really for the space),

Yarrow,

Yellow Agrimony,

Yellow Rattle

and just because i love em red poppy.

Trinity offered me a cornfield wild flower mixture which with my research normally contains the following:

Corn cockle
Corn chamomile
Cornflower
Corn marigold
Field Poppy

Which i will throw into the finished mixture, after all its my 4ft square meadow so i can put anything i want into it ;) ;D.

Thifasmom the poppy seeds went in the post today. If you want more let me know. There's two other non meadow seed items as well to use or swap as you wish. xx

Would love to join in with this as I have a large garden that I want to make ecco
   friendly !

I know there is a 'help ' button but I am new to computors and all the jargon that
goes with it,  I don't regard myself as ' thick ' ,  but surely this where a new member
intro into this site would help many who want to get involved !

I am waiting now , for the flack !

Thanks Flighty i will look out for them and thanks very much for the extras :-*.

four foot square wouldn't fit one of each of the above plants on it. Yes all those MIGHT appear together in a field, but spread over several acres. as an example, lawns are seeded at approx 35 grammes per sq metre, wild flower meadow, 2 gr per sq metre. just scatter what you've got, after removing the turf (this will lower nutrient levels and give the annuals a chance against the grass, rgds, tony
