Anyone staying up to watch it? I'd like to, but think I'll get up early instead... Whatever anyone's political views, this is a historical moment!

I can't stay awake but it is a historical moment.  I just cannot stop thinking that Mr. Obama is going to end up the same way as Mr. Kennedy  :-X   He seems to be just too popular - did you see the pictures of the crowds of people who came out to hear him speak   :o

I keep the radio on all night anyway, so will listen to most of it.

(with apologies to Matt)

we spent a couple of weeks travelling across California this summer and an american lady we spoke to said if Obama gets in (and she wants him to) she fears there will be an assasination attempt because in her words americans are racist really made me think

Rhubarb Thrasher

that devil-woman Hillary Clinton *kind of* hinted at the same thing

Friends of mine who are Republicans are telling people it's a reason to not vote for him!  ::) And they reckon she's a swinger!!

In my experience, this is quite untrue.  I think there are fewer racists in the USA than in Europe.

Can you imagine, no matter how contemptuous you are of Americans, that the Ku Klux Klan could stand for election, and get around a fifth of the vote anywhere in America?  Yet that's what the BNP did in Stoke on Trent.

Can you imagine anything remotely like the Austrian "Freedom" parties getting a quarter of the vote nationally?  Can you imagine Jean Marie Le Pen transmogrified to an American presidential hopeful, with a realistic chance of doing well in the primaries?

We should cast out the beam in our own eye, IMO.

I love the campaigning and the excitement of election day.

Always interested in what goes on in the USA as it will ultimately affect us. :)

I presume you misspelt hysterical.  Oh and its 'an historical'.  Yawn.

Surely I cannot be the only person in the UK that is completely, absolutely and utterly pissed off with the coverage of the US elections.  Who gives a toss?

Whats that old saying?

When America sneezes the UK catches a cold,or is it the other way round?

I agree it's an historical moment, but don't think it makes much difference whether I hear the result in the middle of the night or tomorrow morning. OH and son are staying up but I need my sleep!
Now if George Bush standing down in a few months' time is in the moiddle of the night, I might stay up to enjoy that!

give a toss what happens in the world.  I take an interest in the USA, Iraq, Europe, Canada, Australia, Afghanistan etc.

Isn't it a very narrow view if you can only take an interest how your own country works and what's going on there?

Everyone to their own of course but I would be on the side of the people that take an interest in world affairs, expands the conversation me thinks other than allotments.........................broadens one horizon's!!!

You should care, val because if McCain wins, there's a 30% chance of him living to the end of his term (due to the type of cancer he has suffered from). That would mean someone who thinks the world is 4,000 years old and that Canada is a threat to the USA would have the codes for the Nuclear weapons...

And we wouldn't be in Iraq if not for Bush

And so many other reasons, like perhaps Obama can help America to move beyond being a (very rich) 3rd world country.
