Hi All,

I was given a chili plant which i planned to keep indoors and pray for its survival over winter and whilst by the window it has grown to just over a foot high and has just opened a few flowers. Is it likely they will produce chillies or should i expect them to die off and just hope for next year.

Do i need to take a brush to pollinate the flowers if there is hope of fruit?

Thanks
Liam
Keep getting worried that the stuff I grow will taste nasty - or turn out poisonous!

Hi, I over wintered 2 chilli plants, I have had loads of chillies from them and they are still flowering, I did use a brush to pollinate them initially but haven't done it for a few months and they seem to be setting themselves. I would use a brush just to be on the safe side,

I intend to let mine keep on flowering and fruiting but will replace them later with new plants.

Aren't chillis self-pollinating? ???

Chillis are self-pollinating although they cross pollinate very easily and the yield is likely to be lower if there's no pollinating agent.

Unless the temperature by the window drops to below around 6 deg C the chillis should be fine.
