If you want to try one Morrisons had them for 99p today, they looked wonderful and I nearly bought one but my family would have teased me no end as I already have enough others, but I was intrigued, might go back for one next week. :-[

Red Kuri

I just sent off for some.

Can Jeannine or anyone else tell me anything about the SQUASH TENESSEE SWEET POTATO?

Sawfish it is a Cushaw type winter squash...vines...elongated tear drop shape, light green with darker green stripes, turns more tan in storage. 12-15 llbs. Poor producer but will take some cool weather, early for a big squash, very poor for eating, decorative only and for me personally not worth the trouble as it isn' t mmuch to look at either. Not one I would choose to grow.

Not a very inspiring answer,,sorry. Really a dud as far as I am concerned.

Red Kuri is similar but not the same as Uchiki Kuri. Some of you may remember that I asked this question early this year, but as there was some doubt, even in seed catalogues, I actually grew both types this year to find the answer.
They are both onion type squashes of similar size, but I felt that Uchiki Kuri was quicker to set fruit and easier to grow. The physical differences are:-
Red Kuri-    A red orange colour skin with a green stalk connecting the fruit to the main stem.
Uchiki Kuri-  A yellow orange colour skin ( almost yellow when young), with a yellow stalk connecting the fruit to the main stem.
I have still to taste them, but "Which" did a taste test and Uchiki Kuri was one of the best for taste.

I have just spotted this description of Uchiki Kuri on seeds of change.

My favourite Sawfish is Delicata types.. very reliable, prolific , tasty and relatively short season.

Having said that.. I got some seeds from a friend in Australia this year that are quite unique and the squash turned out to be fantastic. It is a blue ,but  not available outside a geographical area and was grown for years by the Mayor of the town... aptly called Mayoral Pumpkin. I am hooked on this one and feel quite excited about getting it.

Seen the Uchiki Kuri at : http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Premier-Seeds-Direct  bought other squash seeds from them this year, fantastic germination and only 99p plus 70p postage for my entire order.
