THIS IS NOT AT ALL FUNNY

betula

No you are right ,not at all funny,I fail to see the connection. :(

Rhubarb Thrasher

yes the Tories aren't the Nasty Party anymore

betula

It was meant to be a light hearted comment.

I was not in the business of calling them Nazi..........that is going to far, even for me.

Rhubarb Thrasher

no it was that Conservative minister who used that phrase to suggest what peoples opinions had been of them in the past - Teresa May perhaps? I'm beyond politics anyway - it's all about helping Hard Working Families, and i don't qualify on either count. Disenfranchised!

betula

Are you talking about employment??

ACE

I expect they are going to Birminham to get in touch with the lower classes.

it was just an expression that all the political parties used all the time at the last election, as if no-one else mattered. i'm just cynical, and i've got a headache

betula

No ACE,they go to the IOW to do that :)

^^ It's all a bit queer is that.  I was listening to the Jeremy Vine phone in yesterday lunch time and this was one of his topics and there were very mixed witness accounts from people actually living there, ranging from a scooter ralley, a music festival, a neo-nazi gathering and a few other things.

As far as ten thousand tories descending upon your city, Betula, perhaps you might need several cups of tea and a long lie down afterwards?  ;) ;D

Indeed.  The Nazis were, after all, National Socialists and therefore politically to the left.  I suppose that if they'd been right wing they'd have called themselves National Tories.  ;D

It is obvious from your nasty comment that you have not been off your tiny island, and visited Birmingham recently.

Aww, he's only joking! If the Tories wanted to appeal to the inbred populous, they'd be having it on the "Southern Island"!!!

I did wonder if any of them might like to hang around in Birmingham after their beanfeast and visit some of the misery that their hero caused? They could make a day of it, "here's where we used to have factories", "here's where we housed the unemployed people that we took the jobs from and then called lazy", "here's where we have ongoing poverty and social deprivation as a result of our policies in the 80's"...

You know, sometimes I think Cameron's got a point. And then I remember the misery and suffering I saw when growing up.

When my elder son  (currently 30) reached the age for voting he commented :I've never known anything but Thatcher and I know that stinks.. What he didn't know was who, if anyone, was worth voting for.

National socialists in Germany - right wing murdering racist fascists.

Birmingham has some lovely parts and many that are hellholes. So do most large cities I have visited. Think Paris?

I grew up in Glasgow to the tapping of the riveters on Clydeside building ships. The Clyde where i grew up (in a poncey middle class area) is silent now. The unions killed off that industry as they did the car industry by inflationary wage claims. Or did they? Fat cat pay offs, pension deals and salaries for the bosses might have been part of it?

He probably visited Birmingham on the way back from his last visit to Lincoln - in the 60's.

Can't we sell off IOW to the French, just like we've done with nuclear power

Could it be something to do with his trip to London ?

Maybe he's seen how others live and is jealous.
