I love lavender, and I make these lavender bottles. The flower heads are tucked inside. Nice to put in the linen cupboard.

I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

lorna

I love the smell of Lavender (and sweet peas) Young Lorna next door can't stand the smell of either, now that's weird!! ;D

ACE

Every time I open up A4A I always get a distinct smell of lavender. Same on the buses, the free pass oldies are the only one that use them nowadays.

It's made with just an odd number of pairs of long stalks (17 here) of lavender tied under the flower heads, then the stalks are folded back over the flower heads. Ribbon (secured with a pin) then woven through the pairs of stalks till you get to the bottom of the flowers inside, secure with pin, put a stitch or two in to secure ribbon top and bottom, remove pins and add bow. Ha ha Ace, someone had to say it   ::)
p.s. haven't been on a bus for a very long time, in fact I'm not sure I'd know which end to get on, but come October I'm getting my pass and I'm going places for freeeeee ;D (and I'll stink of lavender)

calendula

Do you get to cook with it Emaggie?  It scents a jar of sugar very nicely, adding to the flavour as well.

Trixiebelle

My mate makes DELICIOUS lavender cookies  :)

a few ideas then  :)

break off the flower heads and freeze in ice cube trays - one to each cube and use in drinks that need chilling - looks pretty and imparts flavour

if you make your own yoghurt heat a bundle of flowers in the milk used to make the yoghurt but can be used in any rx that requires heated milk, maybe hot chocolate or coffee would be nice made with lavender (could use the lavender sugar idea instead to flavour)

lavender ice cream can be made in much the same way, one that uses a custard base that needs the milk heating

flavour gin or vodka with the flowers - leave up to 6 months (if you can)

lavender cheese = crumb a couple of flower heads into 500g ricotta cheese, add a tsp caster sugar, 4 oz cream and the grated zest of 1 orange and 1 lemon - mix altogether and hang and drain in muslin in a cool place for 2 days - unwrap and enjoy

lavender stuffing for roast lamb = 2 oz soft breadcrumbs mixed with 1 egg, 1 chopped onion, 1 spoon of really finely chopped lavender flowers, 1 spoon rosemary - stuff  ;D

use to flavour honey by gently melting honey with the flowers and allow to infuse

Emagggie

Thank you very much, Calendula. Will print and peruse  ;D
