I got burnt!

And not by the sun!!  After spending all day Sunday on the plot, I came home with one wasp sting, and very itchy sore arms and legs where I had waded through a bed of stinging nettles so I could start hacking them back.  I did get quite badly stung and as I was in short shorts and a very short top, back and tummy got stung also.  By Monday I had a red rash developing, by Tuesday I was itchy, and by Wednesday I had blisters forming on my arm (only right funnily enough), legs, back and tum.   I only went to the quacks today - I don't like to waste their time to be honest, and he confirmed that I had bad burns from the nettles and other plan saps.  Plenty of Piriton and generous rubbing with an antibiotic cream.  Oh how glamourous!  Be warned, in this sun, saps and plant juices burn!   :'(

OUCH. sounds really nasty. I would offer a hug, but think it might cause more pain than comfort.

But I have to ask - what on earth were you doing wading through stinging nettles in shorts and little top? Surely industrial strength overals are called for next time?
gone to pot :D

EJ Know how you feel....happened to me a couple of years ago and it's not nice. Only good thing is I've still got some of the prescription bite zapper left, which I need as am being bitten fiercely at the mo..

Also all, avoid touching plants like Euphorbia in this heat...reaction seems to magnify!

Hope you feel better soon...Love CLx

THAT EXPLAINS A LOT!!!!!

I came up with several blisters on my forearms and hands - I had no idea where I had got burned from - cos they were definitely burn blisters - just like the ones I got when I picked the soldering iron up by the wrong end!

They didn't exactly hurt - just when I prodded them (I know - don't prod them) but it was wierd!

OUCH - I know the feeling well!! You just don't think do you when you're getting 'stuck in'?

Hope the Piriton and cream do the trick soon. Just make sure no infection sets in 'cause then it can turn really nasty.

Bet you're glad we can only send out cyber hugs!!!  :P

Life is like nectar sweet but sometimes sticky.

Mrs Ava

I know Aqui, foolish dumb blonde see, wade in, then go, 'oooo, that hurts', but I carried on and did manage to get all of the nettles cut down.

Hopefully the antibiotic cream will stop any infections.

Tis suprising how many things are okay 99% of the time, then just one time, for no reason, you react like mad.

Thanks for the cyber hugs!!!

Jesse

Oooh, EJ you must leave those nettles alone, wasn't it you who got stung just the other day? Next time wrap yourself up in a bubble wrap suit like that allergy advert on tv, then you'll really get the neighbours thinking you've lost the plot!  ;D

Hope you feel better soon.  :)

Oooh, Emma Jane, poor wee soul hope the family gave you lots of tlc or did you still have to cook/clean/wash/scrub as usual (still being Mum that is!).

Think you should order one of these for your next nettle safari!
Quite fetching eh?

Mrs Ava

Thanks Megan, that is just the sort of outfit the doctor suggested!  And I am still mum, come what may, that is my job.  And can you believe, went to the allotment tonite, and got stung again on my hands!  Nettles hide don't you know, and leap out and take a swipe when you aren't looking!

tim

Emma - poor thing - you may borrow my cummerbund for your next foray.

CL - good point - & DON'T ever put it in the shredder - it's lethal! = Tim
