Learned years ago that the tomato food is more complete than any other plant food and I use it for everything.

So many people use tomato feed it is cheap. Lots of people use a variety of plant foods for other things so they put up the prices.

To keep the cleaver sods off yer back, (they have nothing to yeild but being smartarses and no one likes a smartarse)

I see you buy the dry stuff Tim. I get the liquid.

Diluted it I find it is easier to make sure what  plant gets what.

It was pointed out to me some years ago by a representatives of manufacturers of these products. By people had worked for a few big companies between them, over the years. 

Since then I have met others 'in the trade' who have confirmed what I was originally told.

I will say that if one actually has a farm and buys the necessary  in huge quantities wholesale to do the job for the product one is actually growing a better cocktail  can be obtained viably.

My response was to give general advice to domestic growers so that they could get  the best value for money from retail products without them causing detrimental effect to their results.

These people  would not come here asking questions, if, like yourself, they have both knowledge and experience.

Most DIY gardeners want one product to feed plants, one to kill bugs, and one anti fungicde.

And when they ask a perfectly relevent question, probably worried that they might look stupid because of their lack of knowledge. The last thing they need is to be picked up because they have made a simple spelling mistake.

Every credit and encouragement should be extended to anyone wanting to get into the basics of growing and cooking of proper food.
 
Two generations have been brought up in a throwaway, ready made meal, society. Parents, even grandparents can not instruct their children or grand children because they were not taught.

There should not be a stigma attached to asking a question nor to offering a simple answer.

Those who have any knowledge have two options. Share it or keep it secret.

You use a tomato feed on plants that you want to flower and poduce fruit.  This is a high potash fertiliser.

You use a high nitrogen fertiliser on brassicas, etc where you want green leaf, etc .

You use a high potash fertiliser (K) for root crops.

Then you have the 'balanced' fertilisers which contain the above in roughly equal quantities.

Tomato food  certainly ain't cheap (I only use Fison's or Levingtons)  nor is it meant as a general purpose fertilizer.
It's a fertilizer made to do a job .  Its fine for fruit and flowers ..

Tomato feed is balanced for tomato,s with the onus being on potassium but its short on Nitrogen and Phosphates. No doubt its fine on other veg like lettuce where it not in the ground long enough really to bother about. Try it on your onions and see the results.
As some one posted " my cauliflowers grow well until i get a small curd and that's as far as they go, i don't understand it i give them plenty of tomato feed "

This is my first yr growing Brussel Sprouts. Are the sprouts considered more leaves or the "fruits". It sort of looks like a fruit but it is made up of leaves... ??? ::)  So is it  high N fertilizer then?

I use a high-potash feed to encourage fruit production. I've had many fine tomatii from my well fed tomatum plants - also good on pepperren, cucumbae and meleen.
