Freak Fir Apple!?

I was wondering why the top two pink fir apple pots were so brown looking? they were normal in every other way e.g. they wern't rotten, i thought they might be the tubers i planted?
What does happen to the tuber you plant anyway?

I would say they were the original seed tubers for them to be so old and brown looking.  I sometimes come across the seed tuber going rotten, otherwise....I dunno where they go!  ::)
