Growing tumbler tomatoes in hanging baskets.
Do I plant the tomato through the basket so they hang down or do they naturally tumble over?

I have found that they naturally tumble down , I sometimes put basil in the basket as well for a tasty combo  ;D

I stuck basil and a french marigold in last year, worked well  ;D

So do you only need one plant per basket?

Yes, as they can get quite bushy  ::)

I had planned for 3 - 4 per basket :-[

I had better find some more hooks and baskets ;D

I thought the same.

Where am I going to put 24 hanging baskets? ;D

Oh heck, I was like that last year so I grew them in window boxes. They did really well :D
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Putting more than one or maybe two in a basket is going to need some serious watering.

It's not much soil to hold the water.

Your joking right.

Did Whippersnapper in a basket last year, worked very well, it is only a small tom... now I need to find some green sausage seed, it was great but at ground level the slugs ate more than I did!!

I see where you are coming from. I did wonder about that, as I was going to put a few plants per basket, and thought it would help me fit more in (a bit like you poke lobelia through the liner lower down). I think on the advice of 1 plant per basket, we'd better give up on that idea ;D

I had too many last year so utilised the famous black buckets , lots easier to water  ;D

carolinej

Good idea! I will probably do that. There are only so many places you can hang a basket ;D

Im growing this variety too but only plan to have one hanging basket, the rest Im going to grow in pots or window boxes.
