At the end of last summer we took on a 2nd plot which was in a terrible state. I have started a blog to record our progress. The first post covers this winters clearing.

Wow that is impressive and an inspiration, I have to admit if I had been offered a plot like that I would  have been to scared  to take  it on.
  Thanks for sharing  :)

Looking good sparkly 8) I don,t know it sounds really mad but a bit of me envies the excitement of clearing a negleted plot and making order out of chaos mmm never claimed to be sane

I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

It looks like you've got the same amount of bindweed as I've got on my second plot. It's a hard and time consuming tasks digging it out but I'm convinved it's the only way.

I was hoping to get about half the plot, which I took over last November, dug by now but with the bindweed, working on my other plot and being out of action for a month following a car accident I've only managed about a quarter.

I keep having to scale back my plans for this year but it'll all be worth it in the end - keep up the good work !

small update today as I have spent a couple of hours down there leveling off the area where the path will go. At one point I though was running downhill as I was cutting 1 foot down, but stepping back and looking at it and I realised it was just Mt Compost creating the illusion.

I have just got my first allotment, I feel much better now as its not nearly as over grown as your one.
I was feeling a bit daunted as to where to start 1st.

Hi,
We have started to dig our new plot.  We have a lot of couch grass which we have dug out as best we can and are covering each bit up as it is cleared.  Will probably manage 1/2 the plot this year.  For the other half would you recommend using roundup and covering, or would just covering do the same.  Also how long do you have to leave the ground unplnted after using roundup. Thanks
