Been having a sort out and came across 4 floppy disk boxes. Didn't take my allotment head long to turn them into the perfect propagator... :)

Genius!
Ours went into the loft many a year ago, in the pre lottie years.... where's m'ladder! ;D

Great idea! I have made my own progators from those plastic boxes you get bakery products in at the supermarket and some coke bottles with the middle cut out (so have a lid and a bottom).

I'm stupid? Propagators need heat??

Sparkly

They are probably better with heat, but with a lid in a sunny place they get pretty warm! I managed to germinate chilli seeds in a warm place with cling film over the tray last year, so I am hoping this will work fine too!  :)

manicscousers

we're using grape boxes  ;D
the plastic ones with lids  :)

Out of the cold and with a lid, it's suprising how warm the seed compost gets.
(Propagator is probably not the 'correct' word, as a propagator is the person who does the propagating.)........ ??? Who cares, all sorts of different DIY methods seem to work well.

I know I'm easily pleased, but this is such a good idea......I must have some in a box somewhere!?!?! I've been using the raspberry trays with lids, but these would be alot sturdier-I'll be ringing round friends and family tomorrow hunting some down-thanks  ;D

You could also use the plastic boxes that things like dishwasher tablets and washing powder tablets come in, although they'd be a little deeper than the average box.   :)
What I lack in ability and experience, I make up for in sheer enthusiasm!!!

we've ben offered old street light covers, really sturdy with a thick plastic lid  ;D

I use the plastic trays you get meat in from the supermarket.  I get 2 the same size, the 1st - seed tray, I cut the rim off and put some holes in the bottom, then the 2nd just goes straight on top and overlaps.  I have a couple sat on top the fridge as its quite warm and the light also comes through the window.  Working for me so far!!!
