Mine are a similar size; I planted them in October and they sulked till New Year, like my BB's, but now they're fairly shooting away.

Much the same here..
;D

DeeBee

Me too! ;)
Ours came from a french market at Newby Hall, I have no idea what the variety was and had a crisis of confidence so bought some home grown stuff too. MAy have a bit of an excess of garlic this year. Will be doing a search for prevervation mehods later on in the year - fingers crossed.
It never seems to lose its appeal watching stuff pop up in the new year.

Mine have not surfaced yet, planted in October. Think they must be growing South....

Planted standard garlic and elephant garlic in October and they are only just begining to poke through the soil. Thought they had failed so put a lot more cloves in pots in the cold GH a couple of weeks ago and they are showing signs of growth as the root development is pushing the clove out of the soil.

Had a check on mine today & looking good - about 3'' high.
Swapped a few heads with my Italian barber for a jar of Japanese Quince jelly.
I like this trading - the banter is free!

Mine are pretty close as well, they were last year too. I got some decent sized bulbs and some smaller ones
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

I think the advice is that some soft neck garlic does better planted Jan- Feb whereas best for most hardneck varieties is Nov-Dec

The garlic farm has quite a lot on this.

If you're worried about them getting a frost to provoke the formation of cloves, this w.e. would seem a good time to get them in!

Rosebud,  We have an "old boy" on our lottie ( I am the new boy ).  And what he says is spot on.  The things will grow, but he says.  "How are you going to get a hoe between those" ????. He's right.
Last year the beds were hand weeded on my knees !!!.  More room this year :-)

The North-South divide must be just above Derby, because here in Manchester they are through, but not as big as the picture...

manicscousers
