A lovely quilt and a beautiful little boy.    :D

Do you stitch the quilt pieces by hand Jeannine or use a sewing machine?

Jeannine

Hi, I do both sewing machine and by hand. When I do baby quilts I tend to do machine as it is quick and I can make more and I do make many as personal gifts and for other reasons. I also do a lot of hand work, especially applique which is perhaps my personal favourite.

I enjoy sharing baby quilts,it is  blessing for me to be able to do so, they are often simple, they don't usually match the decor of a room, but if made with kiddie prints they make a  a wonderful  I Spy game which is great if baby is a toddler and off colour, and love to send the hug to a new baby. I have a huge I Spy Quilt which I enjoy using with children and they love it.

I have sent quite a few to A4A members  since joining..I hope I haven't missed anyone by the way and if I have PLEASE tell me.

I will post a picture of a big one with a pattern if anyone is interested.

Yes please and  I would love one for my Goddaughters little girl.  How much are they?

Jeannine

Hi I don't sell them. I have given several to friends on A4A who have had babies and have been posting on the  having a baby thread  before the baby was born.XX Jeannine

what a lovely picture of both little Matthew and the quilt - well done Jeannine, such patience I would imagine.

Is little Matthew your grandson Manic?.......I've missed a lot of this group lately for one thing or another

re quilts, I have a beautiful hand-made one (lots of little tiny octagonol pieces) made up to my late Mum's design (in her head) all by hand - it's now about 40 years old and is backed with a double sheet.

My brother has a similar size but lighter colours and his is backed by a candlewick double bedspread - very heavy, made before mine. We both acquired them many years ago before our Mum died and have had good use out of them - brother still uses his sometimes but mine is packed away as duvet's now order of the day but would love to see it out on show again - just wish I had more beds to put it on :'(

Jeannine

Hi, you really must log all the info about your quilt, you can make a fabric label with all the details on it written in indelible pen,( wash it before you fix it)  A hundred years from now that quilt will be still around and someone will love to hear about it's history, especially the older ones that may have been made out of scraps left over fron sewing, they can tell a tale too. Lucky you !! XX Jeannine

that's a good idea Jeannine - just looking at it brings back memories, so many pieces of the materials used, remind me of certain times or occasions -scattered amongst the design are some little pieces of material that made up into a bridesmaid  dress and other little pieces - from pretty Summer dresses that my Mum (or myself wore) - at the time

tis certainly nostalgic and a treasure to have :)
