Hello, this is my first post, we got our allotment on Sunday after nearly 3 year wait !!  We are so excited !! Its a half plot as there is a long waiting list, but better than nothing.  It needs so serious love and attention though, its been a bit neglected.  We are hoping to find a very reasonably priced poly tunnel or greenhouse now, so we can get started !!

Congratulations sandra, enjoy your new plot. Good time of year to get one as you have all winter to clear it.
Makes you wonder why the waiting lists are so long when the newly allocated plots are so overrun/neglected doesn't it?
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,
Regards Alan.

hiya, sandra, welcome to the site.. so glad you've got your plot, great time to get one, by next year, it'll be all ready for planting in..happy digging.. ;D

Thankyou for your lovely welcome messages, my OH has been digging it over all week and putting plenty of rotted leaves on top, its really heavy clay soil !   It is disheartening to see allotments that have been abandoned and neglected when you have been waiting for years!  But we have it now and can't wait to get stuck in!!

I'm hoping to make somebodies day on Sunday we have two plots come up and a waiting list of 21...
Whereabouts are you Sandra? It makes a difference sometimes when talking about growing food, some of us have put our locations under our details... eg Derby on mine...
Have you taken some before Pics as we are a very nosy lot...
I'm sure you will have a great time both on the plot and the site(s) so welcome to the madhouse!
;D

Welcome Sandra  ;D ;D ;D And congratulations on your plot!

I have just got mine too, it doesnt sound as overgrown as yours. But it is a shame they are left to get into such a state.

I echo what everyone else has said......you will NEVER find a friendlier site. Everyone is absolutely stunning,
I hope you enjoy your time her as much as I do  ;D ;D
I was born with nothing and have most of it left.

Our location is near Witney in Oxforshire, very heavy clay soil !!  We forgot to take a picture last weekend and OH has been slaving all week to get it dug over and weeded.  We will take a picture this weekend and I will add it then.
I've been looking at greenhouses and poly tunnels, wow how expensive are they!!  But I guess they pay for themselves in the long run !
Look forward to chatting again soon

We are on very heavy clay as well... Deb P had a good result using calcified seaweed... see her response today..

Hi Sandy and welcome to the madhouse, get plenty of organic material dug into the soil and lime in Auturmn and Spring, but keep liming and manuring weeks apart, if you already  know this then take no notice of me waffling on, now get out there and help your poor OH with some digging.  :-X   ;D ;D ;D

Hello Sandra and welcome to A4A.
Congrats on your new allotment. Exciting time to get one when you are not rushed to get your plans in operation to hurry up and plant.
Can I suggest you look and post a *Wanted Ad* on freecycle for a greenhouse. I have read many times people being lucky enough to get one. If you don't get any immediate replies keep trying and posting wanted ads.
Happy planning and digging.  :)

Congradulaitions on the new plot,
Take it easy dont over do it in a mad rush to get it looking like everyone elses plot, remember some have had theirs for many years  :)
Our plots are self managed and plots are not allowed to get neglected as a letter is sent out an they are given a few weeks to clear it or hand it back over, works very well.
Most important part is have fun and enjoy the planning ect  ;D

So pleased to hear you have a plot.   Sadly near where I am there are plots to spare.  I am not far from the  Chocolate factory Bournville.
