the worse weed we have is a pretty little thing called a speedwell it,s not really hard to deal with just a shallow rooted annual except it flowers all through the year which means it seeds as well. it can cover ground very quickly. if it,s dry !!!
the hoe deals with it but if it,s wet you just spread it. this picy i hasten to add is not my plot but my nieghbours  marg

Selfheal.
If it gets in a lawn, it's a devil of a job to eradicate. If it flowers, the plot is lost.
Eskimo Nel was a great Inuit.

At the moment ALL OF THEM  >:(
The Devil Invented Dandelions!

On the bright side, I get plenty of exercise digging the stuff up.

Scarlet Pimpernel - my old school badge comes back to haunt me  :o
If I ever get it all right - then that's the time to quit.

what's the difference etween mares and horsetail..if it's underwater, for marestail, that's probably what we've got..the river's back on our plot!!

SMP1704

Now that's a damp plot Manics ;D

I don't think there is much difference between the two except regional variations in language.  The name was supposedly given as the growth was thought to resemble a horse/mares tail.

If I had a horse or mare with a tail like that, I'd take it to the vets!

Seriously tho', both like damp conditions and the only way that I have found so far to control it is to use Deep Root.  The downside is that I can't use that treated area for the rest of the year :(

We have the dreaded horsetail - or 'towpipe' as the old timers call it  ::)

It's worse on one side of the plot, and more towards the back than the front so we're gonna aim to put our shed etc up that end to save having to dig some of it out  ;)

Unfortunately this year our legumes bed has it pretty bad, and i really don't want to use chemicals on land where we're growing food so we'll just keep pulling the dratted stuff out I guess   ::)  ::)
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

Mares tail.

Not on a lottie...but my neighbouring garden doesn't treat it. So every year it creeps back.

My whole village is plagued by mares tail and red biting ants.  >:(Wish we could all be rid of them both! ::)

Budding Titchmarsh aged 4 told me a few days ago that he hates.............
........."F***ing nettles"  :o

I said " Hey you ! where did you hear that ?  >:("

He looked at me with a face that butter wouldn't melt in and said "Dad calls it that ! is that a bad word, nettles ?  ;D ;D ;D

Try keeping your face straight ! ;D
UNDER PRESSURE (constantly)

wolflike

As I am starting to dig over my new allotment I would have to say COUCH GRASS. My allotment is covered in it and I have already done my back in once.

With my garden it is definatly bindweed. Sick of it wrapping itself around everything.
The best thing about growing your own is knowing that somebody didn't get chain ganged into picking it!

Horseradish definitely  >:(!  I'm on top of the bindweed now, almost 2 years after taking on a neglected plot. But the horseradish will come back forever! I'm also having trouble with docks again; the seedlings grow so fast and before you know it they have grown strong tap roots.

cornykev

Marestail, its an absolute nightMARE.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Dandelion i also had trouble with horseradish, i managed to get a drop of weedkiller from a farmer called Grazon and it did the job for me
Richard       If it's not worth having I will have it

Ground elder, you never get rid of the stuff.

I have had to work a lot over the past four weeks - managed to get lottie number one back under control without too much effort. But went up to lottie two today which is in the next village. OMG  :o I hate all weeds but the horsetail has almost taken one corner back, and goodness knows where the rest of the little blighters have come from. The beds I regained from the wilderness this spring are trying their best to revert. Thank goodness I have a couple of days off work now and can get stuck in again.
:P ::)
