Earlier this year I made a detailed sowing list to which I stuck fairly rigorously, up till now that is. According to the list I wasn't going to sow anything in July. But my 2nd sowing of carrots has failed to germinate (1st sowing did brilliantly) and I now have an EMPTY bed with a lovely TILTH not too dry not too wet, just perfect for sowing.  I've just had a rummage in my seedbox.
Tomorrow I will be sowing  8):
Tatsoi
Lamb's lettuce
Rhubarb chard (to pick as young salad leaves)
Black winter radish
Parsley
Rocket

I love sowing things and when I return from Nice on Saturday I am going to sow all sorts of stuff in the 3 early potato beds. If they fail, then so what?

flossie

thanks for this list..
My plot has been a real disaster this year.  When my holiday starts on Saturday morning, I plan to do some sowing and I will look at you list for inspiration.
I hope that you have a good day tomorrow.

Mrs Ava

I sowed some chinese greens and moolis last week.  They were up in the week and it was lovely to see them all fresh and new.  ;D  Fingers crossed the old flea beetles have b*ggered off now so they won't be attacked.

Well up my list along with Nemaslug...

SueSteve

I thought I would go to the lottie this morning, plant some carrots and chard and pick some courgettes, peas and onions.
That was before the rain... so now it will be too sticky to go sowing :(

Still in the plot   36 Leeks, 1x rows parsnips, 2x  rows chard, psb, broccoli, 5 rows garlic, 1 row swede, lots of onions - started in rows, but the birds had them and now they are random!!

I sowed two packets of Tendergreen D French Beans yesterday and although it rained on and off the soil was quite reasonable...

I've sown some more lettuce and parsley and radish for later summer eating and I'm trying to plan for winter as well - I've got kale in, and cambourne7 is kindly sending me some swiss chard so that will go in as well.

I'm thinking of having polytunnels with some winter lettuce this year. I saw some seeds for a good overwintering variety online, but you had to place a minimum order of £7.

Can you overwinter lots of types of lettuce? I might try and get some seeds in a shop.

manicscousers

I've got greyhound cabbage coming up, idol cauli, winter density lettuce(I know but it was cold when I sowed them ), just sowed mouli radish, summer radish, spring onions, crimson forest and senshyu onions  ;D

Susiebelle

Pigeonseed, I sowed winter salads at the allotment last year with great success, I used Sarah Ravens choice and picked the plants over twice a week right through winter (didn't buy a single lettuce ) then allowed the plants to grow to full maturity - Fabulous I will be doing the same this year.

pigeonseed

Thanks for the reply susiebell

is sarah ravens choice a variety of lettuce or a seed company?

Marymary

pigeonseed

Thank you so much! I'll do that now!

Beetroot and carrots go in my ex-spud and ex-onion beds - a bit of both in both (if that makes any sense?).
Carrots in the ex-onion bed tomorrow I think, to go with the beetroot that are poking through.

Must get some leeks and parsnips in soon for the winter as well......
"Given that these are probably the most powerful secateurs in the world, and could snip your growing tip clean off, tell me, plant, do you feel lucky?"

Sparkly

When is the latest you can sow parsnips? I have recently planted perpetual spinach, summer radish, silverskin onions, pak choi, 3 types of winter cabbage, purple sprouting broccoli and swede. I am planning to plant some autumn carrots in our (just taken out) bath (new suite being fitted). Then in a few weeks some seed potatoes before oct planting season. Yey!
