Hi
Well it looks like the allotment shop on our site was subject to arson >:(

http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/yorknews/display.var.1483467.0.hunt_for_yobs_after_allotments_fire.php

It was a great shop for all your lottie needs, a place to meet other plot holders and ask for advice.
I hope they will rebuild it (with bobby traps!) as there is a lot of older plot holders on our site who may struggle to get to the nearest (and most expensive) garden centre. There was also a lot of none plot holders who were members losing out.
Why cant they just leave things alone  :-\ Or go play with trains on the railway line behind the site :-X

That looks really awful. I really feel for you. Such a shame that we can't just get on with it quietly without the yobs trying to spoil our enjoyment.

tim

How sick!

If only they could be made to reinstate everything - and meet up with the folk that their action has so gravely affected.

Once again - blame the parents.

cornykev

Sorry about your news Debjay >:(, I like the idea in the paper, burning them at the stake. ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

How about what Tim suggested? Get the b**gers back and get them to put it all back the way it was. And meet the people they've upset.

caroline7758

Sometimes I think it's a good thing we have no facilities of any kind at our site- nothing to attract the vandals. Really sorry to hear about this.

OliveOil

OH debs that is awful.

Its so sad that noone these days can just get on with their lives without some mindless idiots destroying things.  Such a shame = i hope the police catch the buggers!

asbean

They need stringing up by the thumbnails and then set fire to them.

They seem to think it was kids, but what were kids doing out and about at 4 a.m.?

Like everyone else really sorry to hear about the fire. Arson is a terrible thing, don't these morons understand that when firemen are attending their stupid act that other people's lives could be in danger if firemen couldn't attend fires elsewhere.
What a shame, so many people were benefitting from the shop and now that has been taken away from them.

Squashfan

Sorry to hear about the loss. As my mother always says, may you grow up and have kids like yourselves. Hope the arsonists do!!  >:(
This year it's squash.

Jeannine

Oh dear, I ma so sorry to hear about this, there are no pearls of wisdom, just I am sorry for you all.

Sadly kids are roaming around at 4 pm,  I have often wondered why there is no police curfew on teenagers, there is in the area we lived in Canada. Police can stop kids after the curfew time and if they have a bona fide reason to be out and parents confirm that on being contacted they are let go, if not they are taken home.  It seems to work very well and the kids don't seem to mind it. If course once that are no longer minors it ceases.

Once they are no longer minors they'd be working or at college/university with less time and energy for roaming around in packs looking for mischief to get up to.

debjay can I add my commiserations to every one Else's, really feel for you and your fellow allotmenteers :( such a senseless act is so demoralising I do hope every one involved is able to pick themselves up and have another go and not let the b*******s win.  Is it possible to get any volunteer groups involved? you say you have a number of mature? people working the plots, could age concern offer any advice or support?  I do hope there is some thing out there to help.

quizzical1

Commiserations from me too.

May I suggest that if you (or your commitee) are considering rebuilding, that you do so with non-flammable materials? Concrete block walls, Metal sheet roof, and metal doors, with no windows.
Maybe you could get donations of materials from your local builders merchants.
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,
Regards Alan.

Glad for you debjay that it will be restored but the concerns remain the same. Maybe .... oops I was about to say "maybe if we all contact our MPs" then I remembered Manor Allotments. No wonder young folk turn to terrorism.

No I didn't really say that. I am a sentient human being....
