I started eating my last butternut squash from last years crop last night.  Amazed as to how long it has kept for, it was just starting to go a bit soft at the top but otherwise still in perfect condition.

Has anyone else still got squashes left to eat from last year?

I still have one Jaspee de Vendee to cut, it's a little on the soft side but will roast nicely.  ooo more seeds to offer perhaps !!

Oh wow! What ones are they Jeannine?

cj :)

Jeannine

They are Sugar Loaf Delicata, when picked and first cured they are a creamy white colour with geen stripes, they turn this colour over a long time in storage these have been 9 months off the vine. After they cure wash the skins in a very mild bleach water, and the same afer each two months or so,this is to kill any mildew spores that may have been on the plants.

I think I sent you some of these.

Oh  and Caroline I got 3 Batman pumpkins to germinate,so I will pot one on a ndsend it to you.

Well done! I just dont know what I did wrong with them. Thank you, you are an angel. I am really looking forward to seeing the end product. Do you think they will be as black on top as the picture showed?

I will check tomorrow if they are still alive. I have lost loads of plants over the lottie. I dont understand it, as some are looking really green and healthy, and some have shrivelled up. They are spread over 2 lotties, so there doesnt seem to be a common theme of where they are planted.

Am I cross.....OF COURSE I AM NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

I think I will keep the batman one you send me at home in the garden where I can keep an eye on it.

I know I have one really healthy 'Jack be Little' and just one of my atlantic giants is doing well.

real food

I have four Festival left in perfect condition. they have been stored in the cool back bedroom, no sun. I may keep one to just see how much longer it will store. My First Taste and Red Kuri, I had to eat them months ago, as they were starting to go soft.
I must try Sugar Loaf next year, and see how it does in Glasgow.
