Snow forcast

I am in shock - BBC Radio Cambridgeshire have just forcast snow in the next 2-3 days!!

No snow forecast here, but metcheck gives temp 4 (feels like 0) tonight, and -3 tomorrow night  :o !!!!!!!!!!

What shall i do i am a newbie to growing veg my local weather is saying 3 tonight shall i go and cover my veg tonight or do you think it will be o.k  ???

I am seing lots of zeros over night between now and wednesday

which means that i am going to hang on to my sweetcorn, onions, spinach, sprouts etc and not bring  them to the plot.

Only things on my plot that might be an issue are my tomatos and some seedlings which i have not covered.

Been up to the plot today and got stuck in a horrible mini storm, heavy rain and hail the side of marbles.

Lasted about 10 min and the allotments had water running down it  like rivers into the french drains.

The hail was still on the floor an hour after its fallen so i guess its colder then it feels all bundled up.

As the old proverb says "Ne'er cast a clout til May is out"  Some of the oldies stand the test of time eh!

Down here in Minehead we are lucky to (a) be south! and (b) be close enough to the coast to keep most of the frosts away!

Wait for it - being smug like that will bring me a plague of greenfly, blackfly and anything else nasty!

Hope everyone's tender stuff has survived though!  What a shame to lose it all now!

Most of my tended stuff has not up on the plot.

One row of my potatoes are not doing well its either nicola or Moulin Rouge i could not read the label in the rain. Growth is 1/4 of the other row.

I suspect it might be the Moulin Rouge which were given to me at the potato day as broken bits free rather than normal spuds. Or its the dreaded blight.

I had planted a couple of rows of beans and peas last weekend and because the weather has been so poor the birds seam to have left them alone which is a blessing :-)

We were forecast a frost for midlands on Tuesday night - so went to lottie and fleeced evrything tender. Also I had planted my tomatoes but these were in a double skinned tomatoe house. Went this evening to unfleece thinking everything would be alright - but most plants have some scorched leaves - even under the fleece. The worst is the tomatoes in the tomato house are very scorched. Even the tomatoes in my neighbour greenhouse have scorched tips! Just hoping my toms recover other wise i will have to buy some from the garden centre.  :'(

we had the mother of all hailstone storms here in bradford at teatime. a few cracks of very loud thunder too...
hailstorm lasted about 20 mins very heavy and prolonged...
