Bad news for slugs and snails?

Cat litter. The slimies don't like it underfoot and if they do risk a stroll, it absorbs all their yucky mucus and leaves them high and (very) dry.  ;D I shovel it on and around my hostas (good and thick and now-ish, before the leaves really unfurl). It's cheap, easy to use and it works for me. If I forget, I grow lace curtains in various shades of green.  >:(

Ooooooh, thats a good idea, never heard of it before but does make sense. Would there be a problem with chemicals if using for veg?

Only used it on hostas so don't know but wouldn't think so.  ???  ;D

we were told bran has the same effect but then I was told it encouraged rats so I don't know what to do  :)

I put some Bran in the cold frame but it went and the slugs didn't so I think the mice etc ate it ...

Good tip Grandma. Wonder if it works as well if girl thingy has piddled on it? Got plenty here, the cats go out and then come in and use the tray ::)
I shall take used contents to plot with me tomorrow and put it to the test. ;D

Ooooh! What a handy hint Grandma  ;D I've got several spare bags from when my cat produced a dozen kittens!

I'll experiment tomorrow on my transplanted lettuces. Half of them have copper rings round them I made from wire from the scrap merchants so the rest can have the catlit treatment  ;D

I use it for the Buns and being wood based it's not too good for the compost heap so thanks Grandma will def give it a try

I spent £7.50 on some slug stoppa granules that my son swore were just cat litter :-[ I'm inclined to agree with him! >:(

All lettuces have been given the treatment (fresh litter) and sunflowers too, around the bits of pipe. (Belt and braces, me ;D.) Will watch with eager anticipation of seeing a stuck slug.

Have found cat litter to be very effective around hostas, the wood based one i'm not so sure about , but they really don't like the gravelly fullers earth style ones, Asdas own seems to be good as the pieces are quite large.  ;D
