Hi everyone! Newbie here with some info you might be interested in. I've found a wool by-product that is not only used as a mulch but also as a water-retainer for hanging baskets, tubs etc. Not only that - it's said to repel slugs too! :D (Mind you, it does pong a bit so I can understand why they might pack their bags!) ;D ;D ;D

check out the website for more info. www.growaid.co.uk

Now, are you sure you "found" it cos you read rather like a salesperson to me. :-\

And Cleckheaton ain't exactly a million miles away from Dewsbury is it?

Shoddy a by-product of the wool trade has been used for a long time.
I use Rag which is the waste from the peat industry, when they put the peat through the graders they are left with lumps & wooly bits which they throw away.
If anyone wants to collect some for free from my lottie which is in the Leigh area of Wigan they are welcome to some.
I know it may not be PC but it would only get dumped if I did not take it

I bought a tub of this last year. It was pretty effective at retaining moisture, but it smelt of wet sheep when it rained, not surprisingly! And it's not that cheap.

I wish I was a sales person, I'd have more time to spend on the lottie! Maybe the fact that Dewsbury isn't so far away from Cleckie made it easy to find ::) ::) ;D
I hpe the smell isn't too bad 'cos the hanging baskets I plan to use it in are right by the front door! :'(

Doris_Pinks

I dunno about the smell.........but your names got me singing and showing me age! ;D ;D ;D

"MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo"  etc etc!!

I'm impressed that you know the words! ;D It's actually the name of my dog! He's a Puli so he has long black dreadlocks instead of fur. I wanted a name with the word Mack in it and his dad already had Mack the Knife, hence the song! ;D ;D I'm gonna be singing that all night now!
