Tomatoes - where in rotation plan?

Hi all, this is a question that's been bugging me for a while - where do I put my tomatoes in, to fit in with my four year rotation plan?   

I understand the thing about having to keep them away from the potatoes due to blight, but as they belong to that family I'm not sure where else I should be putting them.

Also, I'm assuming that wherever i end up putting them is where they'll stay, and they'll rotate around the plot with their new bed fellows?

Search me. Don't think I've ever seen tomatoes in a rotation plan. We grow ours in pots :)

I'm going to put mine with the courgettes and beans etc. I too always believed you should keep them away from the spuds but then I read somewhere that some people plant them with the spuds in order to keep any blight confined to one place...so who knows??? ???

we just put them in somewhere the potatoes aren't..they like muck so, we put them around the leek bed, with the sunflowers last year  ;D

Hmmmm, confusing isn't it?  I think perhaps i'll just put them in wherever i seem to have the most space left, and go with that.  Thanks all

Don't want to confuse you further kitten :) but there is another theory that says you rotate tomatoes together with potatoes so that you keep the potenrial sources of the same problem together.

Hi larkspur, i had originally planned to put the toms & pots in one bed together as they are same family, and according to the book i'm following they would be in same rotation group.  However, i posted the question because of conflicting ideas from this site!

Think i'll ask around at the lottie & see what the neighbours do, they'll love that!  ;)

I plant mine near my potatoes  :) they are from the same family after all...

This is my first year of crop rotation, last year sort of went here and there. But Kittens right one of my books puts them in the same group, another puts carrots and spuds in the same group. I personly would grow them apart putting the toms where ever suits you but if you can keep them in pots do so.    ;D ;D ;D

I think the problem is that if you plant them near potatoes then if either gets blight chances are both will. But since there is a high likelihood that the blight will spread from other plots to yours or from one end of your plot to the other with the wind/ breeze/ you moving weeds stuff from one place to another on the soles of your shoes etc I don't really see what difference it makes.
