Wetcanvas.com is a nice artist community (not crafts though). So you'll find great painting forums, a clay forums, and the general chat type forums too. I'm a mod of the business forums there. :)

Hey prink13,  I see you've already found The Potting Shed, it's a great forum for craft, sewing and all sorts of other hobbies.

Emagggie

I like to have a bash at all sorts of craft, so I was pleased to find a recomended site. Thanks Leonnie.
Smile, it confuses people.

There is a Yahoo group named Card Making Friends.

I joined the group quite a while ago, but left when I slowed down on my card making. Most of the members are british with a few Americans. I learned lots from the group. There are so many different crafts to use in card making and you will find out lots of different things from what you are doing now. The members are very generous, sharing decoupage sheets, tea-bag tile sheets etc. They also run a RAK (random act of kindness) sub-group where cards are sent to each other, and card swap groups.

The members are so friendly. Hope you decide to give it a go.

Jo.

Thanks all for your suggestions - I will look at them all before I decide

Please can someone tell me if 'card making' involves only decoupage or is it all different methods.(decoupage looks sooo fiddly)  :-\

I make cards by sticking stuff on and decorating them..my fingers won't let me do fiddly bits like decoupage   ;D

Hi prink, i'm also into crafting, i like knitting, cross stitch and making cards, although don't get as much timeto do it lately as i used to.  I've only used the do crafts forum so far, it's okay but probably not the best one out there.  I hear that Dawn Bibby's forum is quite good, i think her website is www.topazcrafts.tv

Emaggie - no, card making isn't only about decoupage, it is a very popular technique though.  I've never tried it myself, i've always thought it looks too fiddly to me!  All that cutting out!  I mainly use layering, stamping, different embellishments, ribbons & various background papers to create my handmade cards.  Stamping & embossing are fun techniques too - good for beginners!

Happy crafting!

Mmmmmmm....................sounds like quite a few crafters on this forum already - maybe need to nudge Dan!  ;D

Emaggie - there is loads of different types of card making - check out QVC or Ideal world for ideas - but I do stamping, 2 types of embossing, stitching, pricking, painting, beadwork, layering of papers/card etc. but there are too many to name

Just try some and enjoy them

Hi I am a quilter and a porcelain doll maker(used to teach that) waiting for my kiln to be hooked up here still..nudge to OH... also make mohair  teds ,and doing a bit more sugarcraft lately, closest thing to clay when I can't fire anything, love minature knitting ,plus the kites. I didn't realise the scope of this forum. Nice to hear about others skills, the cards I have seen hand crafted are just  beautiful, I dare not even think of starting that,,,,,,,,,,well......not this week. Thank you for the links  XX Jeannine
PS Does anyone out there do lace making on a pillow, have some patterns that need a home ditto some old crochet stuff.

I have always wanted to make my own cards as I love receiving them :)

Some time before I left the UK my OH bought me two card making kits from Argos, but working full time, with two little ones, I never used them.  Since moving to France I now realise that they are not into card giving, and the ones I can buy are expensive and dismal. Now I have more time I have joined a local craft club, and for lack of anything else to take, I took along one of the kits to make a card for my sister-in-laws 40th.  Took me all day to make it (too much chat!) but I really enjoyed it.

For anyone looking to start these kits are great, without the expense of buying loads of different bits.  I am not sure if Argos still sell the ones with the instructions, but I am sure somewhere would sell them.

When I finally make all the cards I will have an idea of what to buy (strangely enough they sell loads of card making materials  here ???), and hopefully be able to make them from scratch.

Back to the original topic, a forum would be great, especially if it was UK based.

manicscousers

even Netto gets kits for cards, stationery shops have some..it's satisfying and you can personalise them for the person you're making them for..I often download baby pictures on to my cards for my children...
I wonder if any of the men have snuck on here or are they leaving it well alone..we could say anything!!   ;D ;D

An idea might be for a small group to create a free blog just for this purpose?

cocopops

Good idea, there seems to be a 'crafty' side to many of the members  :)

prink13

Don't really know much about Blogs - can someone help us out - or what about asking Dan if we could have a "Subject" of crafts on this website?
