Please can we do something to remember Supersprout?

Marymary, my idea of the squash seeds was to buy them in bulk, make up little  attractive packs of several types enclosed by a pretty wrapper, and sell them to a wider audience to then donate the money to the cancer trust or ?

I think it is an idea worth exploring but it will have to be done carefully and very professionally,

I'd love to go to Barnsdale- and to meet up with some of you! Bit of a drive, but let me know if anything gets organised.

Jeannine, not very good with seeds and packets, however more than happy to list them on e-bay for us, and also quite good at labels to go on packets if any use to us

I will also look into the Barnsdale possibility tomorrow

I can get the seeds wholesale from the Us I think, I can certainly get them in large quantities. I can pack them too with small pictures or descriptions of the type of squash the little packet holds. Perhaps someone could design the  first outer packet, and or/decide what it should say on it.

I could do it on e bay but would prefer to hand that to someone else. I hate handling money unless I have to .

Perhaps it could be discussed at your meeting , several heads usually come up with the best answers.

I also think it will take a bit of time and we may not be able to do it for this year but have it ready when seeds start being advertised in the late Autumn.

Anyway it is worth a thought.

Does anyone know what her very favourites were.

I guess it would't just have to be squash, it could be a blend of squash, toms and ??

Sorry Jeannine, I missunderstood & thought we were going to save seeds from those she had sent us which is a good idea but I think fraught with technical difficulties.  Buying them in bulk sounds much safer.  I would think that it would be better to stick to all squashes or all tomatoes - mixed packets of different squashes or toms might be fun.

Perhaps in the cultivation notes we could say that they have to be mulched with straw.  :)

I have just been on the phone to Nic Hamilton, (son of Geoff), who runs Barnsdale gardens, and gave the lecture that Sarah, Emma and I went to last year. :D

Nic is sure that he is able to do something for us, dependant on the date, he thinks that he would be able to meet and greet the group, and get the Veg supervisor to give us a tour of the "Allotment Garden". ;D

All Nic needs is a few dates, I'm thinking end of May, and he said that we could receive more attention if it was a weekday. (but pref. not the week of Chelsea, as they will be busy!) So how does sometime week starting the 14th May sound to everyone?

Nic was really nice, and has said to e-mail him with a couple of dates, and number of people and he will do his best!  ;D

Can't do weekdays I'm afraid. I work in Edinburgh. :'(

Re seeds for Supersprout memory. I have made a few enquiries, re bulk cost of squash seeds. Costs vary re type eg. for 4 ounces of seed, and they do come much bigger, Quensland Blue cots $23.0, and Butternut is $6 .50 with prices in between.
4 ounces is quite a lot of seed but I would be inclined to buy more than that.

For easy calculation figure about $2 to a £1.

I looked at the US market as the choice is good, about 40 differet types on one site, and usually seeds are cheaper.

I have only enquired at 2 places so far and would want to shop around much more before making any choices which I would not do without everyones blessing.

Let me know what you think and I can pursue the idea a bit further if you wish.

I think if we go ahead a joint decision as to what types to investigate might be the next step.

Ideas please.

Would it help to start a new Barnsdale thread, to save confusion? Monday or Tuesday would be best for me, but with a bit of notice I can do any day.

Marymary

I can't do a weekday unless it's during half term.  :'(

As I said in another section, I have been away from the forum for a while, so I was so sad to read about Supersprout.
Did she have a favourite vegetable?
If so I could do a painting of it with an appropriate quotation, e-mail to people who could print it off and hang in kitchen/garden shed as a reminder of Supersprout!

 ;D

mrsnesbitt that is a champion idea!

Any squash would be appropriate, as long as it had lots of straw around it!

People will be beating a path to your inbox methinks!

;)

Thanks Katy...................well just let me know!
