Too Early?

I think my eagerness may have got the better of me. At the weekend I sowed Some White Gem Parsnip, some Tender & True Parsnip, some Early Nante 5 carrot seeds into a raised, high compost-to-soil ration bed. They had been covered for some weeks and the soil was warm to the touch - but is it too early?

My sisters kids were down and wanted to get something in the ground, and I'd already planted the asparagus, rhubard and JA.

What do you think - will I get results?...  :-\ I'm going down this weekend to put some clear plastic over the beds to create a "warmer environment"...

If you can keep them cosy, then you may have a chance, but on my Essex allotment, there is no way I would be sowing directly, even under a cloche until mid March.

Will the black plastic not stunt growth opportunity for the little blighters? Or do I just watch them until they are poking through?

I'm planting carrots in the raised bed on saturday, will cover with thick fleece for warmth, the soils covered at the mo, like yours, dg..don't expect any problems, the clear plastic should keep the frost off, if we get some  ;D

Tims means this is best to conserve heat and get them germinated. Once germinated you would remove it!
