Leading on from my grape juice extravaganza, of which I have about 8 pints, so Mary, quite possibly some will end up in the freezer, I have made my first ever smoothie.

Handful of frozen raspberries
2 bananas
1 kiwi fruit
enough grape juice to make a drinkable drink.

I love it, the kids hate it, and my love thinks it is okay.  What are your tried and tested recipes please - I hav eno idea if I am doing it right as I have never had a smoothie before today.

Hi EJ  have you every made grape jam - I once worked for a Greek lady who made every year it was to die for - not got the recipe unfortunately  :(

never made a smoothie so will watch fot recipes to come in - so good luck and awaitng with bated breath

Mrs Ava

Yup, I make grape jelly, but we have so much jam, jelly and preserves now that we are trying to use up some of the older ones (2004/5) before starting the next batch in summer as the fruits ripen.

Mrs Ava

Said grape juice:

And the smoothie, which needs a good stir:

Yum, looks lovely EJ  :P

All this talk of smoothies inspired me, so yesterday we made a batch of the following:

3 bananas, 2 nectarines, small punnet of blueberries, one apple and a tub of natural yoghurt.  We had it for pud lastnight, and still have half left for smoothie later today.  It was sweet but yum!

A nice breakfast smoothie is bananas, honey and yoghurt, top with oats, and you have a yummy healthy start to the day! x
Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened

Mrs Ava

Right, yoghurt goes onto the shopping list.  ;D

we use apple or orange juice with nanas, mango and some sort of currant or berry..sometimes even strawberries, if they ever last that long..full of vitamins and minerals..sometimes add soya milk   :)

Mrs Ava

Yes, I was wondering about adding milk - I will get yoghurt for sure, but I would have though the milk would have curdled with all those fruit juices.

p.s.  Have now added mangos and nectarines to the list.

Grandma

Hi Emma-Jane! My best smoothie was made from elderly bananas, melon and strawberries - it was BOOTIFUL - but not drinkable.  (It had to be eaten with a spoon!  :P :P :P)
P.S. How's the bruised bum coming along? Hope it's all better.  ;)

Mrs Ava

Ooo, sounds good Grandma, unlike the bum.  I have a bruise the colours of which have never been seen on such a delicate area of flesh!  It started blackey purple, then went purple grey  ??? and is now black and bright red.  Looks really odd, and is still tender to the touch.  I'm sure smoothies will help.  ;D

Ooo, and another thing, how many would you drink a day...not wanting to be a piglet.  I have had a couple, but only in little glasses, like about a small wine glass full.  I am thinking of having a long one for brekky tomoz, then no more.  Does that sound about right?

kitten

That's what i'd do EJ, either a tall glass full for breakie, or two to three small wine glasses full throughout the day.  x

Tinned fruits are great for smoothies too, and even better if you're faddy like me and go through phases of being bothered to make them...

Try...
Tinned mangoes with tinned peaches and coconut milk (the light stuff tastes okay too, if a bit worried about the high energy content of the full stuff!).

Tinned peaches with apricot yoghurt (Yeo Valley is yummy) and orange juice.  Not so popular with kids and it probably isn't sweet enough.

Is it possible to add a Microsoft Word file on here?  I have a booklet that we produced at work with smoothie recipes... :P
Thank you to all who donated to the Moonlight Half Marathon Walk in aid of St Catherine's Hospice - my mum and I raised just over £300!!!    ............     Thanks!  :-)

I love smoothies, especially in the summer, they become my breccie!

Fave is Banana, raspberries, mango and Strawbs, I add my danone yoghurty drink and whizz it all up. Sometimes I add flax seed if I am feeling xtra healthy! ;D

My kids love smoothies, they prefer to have blueberries in them. (frozen fruit works really well! ;))
We don't inherit the earth, we only borrow it from our children.
