I started some celeriac seed in a propogater (unheated) about a month ago, but nothing has come up yet.  Should I be panicking yet?  I recall the seed packet saying it does take 25 days or something, but then my other packs often say 10 days and I usually see a few bits up way before then  ::)

boooooo.  Maybe I should try again then.  I dont wanna tip em out though, just in case.  lol.  dunno what to do.

You are as bad as me!  I hang on to seed trays with things in that should have germinated in a week or so, and months have passed...just in case!  I am learning to be more ruthless now tho, space is a premium now I am growing veg as well as flowers.

My celeriac was slow to start, same as my celery, but within a couple of weeks it was up and growing like mad!  Sizeable little plants now too.  Which leads me on to ask.....when can I harden it up and get it out  ::)  ???

Mine says gradually acclimatise and plant out in June.  Though I spose anytime after all risk of frost gone?!?!

Am I too late to put seeds in? was the one thing, oh and celery, that I forgot to plant!! :o  DP

Mrs Ava

Spring bank holiday weekend is going to be a mammoth planting extravaganza!  I had better start hardening everything off.  I have celeriac, celery, sweetcorns, squashes, toms and peppers!  And that isn't including the brassicas which need to go out in all the gaps, and all the salads and rooty things which I am sowing directly!  AAGGHH  I need help!   ;D

I have found  that my  celeraic is doing  quite well this  year, but it does need warm temperatures to germinate. I would leave it for this  year and try again next April.

doh - I was really looking fwd to this too, and it was one of the first things I started this year!!!  Knew I shulda panicked earlier!! ::)

I might still try for half a row, whast teh worst that can happen, they'll jsut be small right?  ;D

I've checked my diary (which I am still maintaining this late in the year) and find that at 20 degrees the celeriac (this year's seed from Kings) took 8 days to first appear

I would try again this year, just to confirm that they will germinate at higher temps than when you first tried - it's just possible (but unlikely) that you had dodgy seed.

All my indoor sown seed germinated with only one exception this year, that was 2 packets of salvias, grown alongside other seeds which germinated well - I'm about to complain to Unwins
