.....how should you pronounce falafel??

With the stress on the 'fal' and 'fel', sort of : fal-u-fel with the 'u' as a phonic 'u' as taught to children today.  Does that make sense - I've never had to describe how to say a word before, but I spent 6 years in the middle east so have heard it a few times.  Of course there could be regional variations...

I've always pronounced it f'laffle :-[
and flavour them with cumin - saying cummin and not queue-min

Curryandchips

As tulippa has commented, there are regional variations anyway, and to make like even more savoury, we have american pronunciations to put up with ...
The impossible is just a journey away ...

I was taught fal-aff-el with the stress on the aff after having been heard pronouncing it falla-fel by one of my hosts while on a visit to Israel many moons ago.

There was another lifetime if ever there was one - I went a week before the assassination of Rabin, and have been glad I'd got the chance ever since, cos I certainly wouldn't dare go now... was lucky enough to get to go to both Jerusalem (Old City, Via Dolorosa, Gethsemane etc) and Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity. Sigh.

I love them too and make them often - adding broad beans to the chickpeas makes an interesting variation
