Pea recommendation

I would just like to recommend Alderman peas.  I know I have before, but the huge harvest began today and they are outstanding.  Each 8 inch pod contained at least 10 huge, fat, sweet peas.  The plants are tall - over 6 foot, and the peas start about 3 foot from the ground.  They need support because of their height, but because of their height, they are easy to pick and keep tidy.  I am not going to bother sowing any of the shorter varieties next year.

Whereabouts did you get them from? I searched Fothergills and Thompson & Morgan but neither company seem to sell them. Thanks.

You beat me to it EJ! Planted these this year following your previous recommendation, and ate our first picking last week. What a gorgeous taste - has completely converted me to podded peas (I only used to grow sugar snaps or mange touts). Last year had a complete failure on peas, so went a bit mad this year and have grown several varieties - Alderman are the winners by far. I have even sown a tray of modules to get some succession - but will support them better. I grew mine round a tepee, but either I put too many plants or they are just too vigorous, but its not enough really so will do more like a runner bean type row next time.

Thanks again Emma for a brilliant tip  ;D ;D ;D

I've just bought some Alderman seed, but is there still time to sow them, or should I wait for next year ???

Mrs Ava

I would think it is to late to sow them now, however there are varieties suitable for sowing now - I have just sown to blocks of Fortune.
