I am way behind this year and still have not been able to curb my over sowing, so the question is would you plant these toms out is there still time ( if I can find space) or are they just fit for composting? ???

Can't remember where you are on the planet roy, I have planted out tinier toms than yours this week in Peterborough outdoors - if they grow, there's room for them alongside the artichokes, if not, they'll keep the ground active trying ;D

Sprouty -  Bham??

Roy - depends. How many do you already have? Do you really need more?? What would you do with them? If yes - then plant. If no - offer them around?

Robert_Brenchley

I'd plant them out and see. I'm sure you'll still get something off them.

I have about 20 plants in large pots at home and about 30 up the Lottie in the ground, I have already parted with 2 trays to a Lottie neighbour and he's complaining that he may struggle to find room, my other neighbour at the plot is struggling to find space for more radishes ::)

Being a new allotment with only a few tenants we rarely cross paths, spose I could just dump em on their Lottie ???

Am I right in thinking it is a no no to plant them where I have dug up my new tatties? ??? Decisions decisions :-\

God it is awful to think of those lovely little plants going in the compost, but if you have enough already, and your neighbours have enough, then maybe that is where they should go!  Are there no school fetes or fairs coming up?

How about a sign outside your house? Tomato plants 50p each?
People do that a lot round here, may make enough to buy your next years toms!! ;D

Well, Roy, nothing ventured, nothing gained?  What have you got to lose?

Give it a whirl, if you get nothing by way of crops, nothing lost - but if you do - well, something for virtually nothing!!!

Personally I'd give them a go!

P.S.  I do find it extremely difficult to throw out  reasonably healthy plants.

Ironic isn't it ::) I popped up the Lottie this afternoon with the intention of trying to find a space to plant these toms and bumped into two new tennants and managed to palm off 36 plants to split between em ;D I'll try another 36 tomorrow and hope I meet other folk there. ;D

DP, I ain't got the bottle to sell em, I'm too shy :-[ ;D

Edited to say...Is it safe to plant these toms where the new spuds have been dug up?
