:'( :'(

When i opened up the conservatory this morning I found a young blackbird lying on the floor.  I thought it was dead so left it to pick it up later.  OH got up and while eating his brekky heard the crying of this Blackbird.  Poor thing was alive but injured.  I opened the conserv. door and in came 'Dad'  What a carry on  trying to get both birds out.  The young one is badly injured and I just cant see to it because am going away for a few days.  It has placed itself under a Fern and hopefully the adults are seeing to it, but what a dilemma for a 'bird lover'.  It must have come into the house yesterday judging by the amount of 'poo' in the conservatory and the L.Room. poor thing....

Why not just ring your local wildlife sanctuary or the RSPCA  ???  Or you could have dropped it off at a local vets and they would have taken the necessary steps.  I had to do that once many years ago with an abandoned injured animal.

Unless you are 100% sure a young bird has been abandoned by its parents, you should leave them alone, since the parents arent going to be far away. Immediately scooping it up and taking it somewhere isnt the thing to do.

Not sure what the best thing to do is if its injured though. Hard though it sounds maybe its best to let nature deal with it her own way. Whatever that might be...... :'( ???

Normally I would agree 100%.  My husband and I are both avid bird watchers/lovers and have been for many, many years.

I know that baby birds are supposed to be left untouched because a parent will almost always be close by but when a bird is obviously suffering and is in distress then leaving it be is not the answer.  If leaving a suffering animal to fend for itself and letting 'nature take its course' was the way to go then we wouldn't have vets or wildlife sanctuaries would we?  Wild or domesticated they are all entitled to a helping hand  :)
