Might go see at Neighbours, 89 yr old Lottie woman, we have no TV. Got that Bristol C4 ? DVD last year and was quite amusing!

DP, If you have Telewest then you can use the teleport system and watch it anytime. I think Sky have something similar. Otherwise most people would probably be at the allotment then.   :-\ busy_lizzie

I don't understand, when I emailed the BBC last year they told me they were rescheduling the show so it would be on at a time more suitable for it's audience, which overpaid genius decided that 10am on Sunday mornings, when most allotment gardeners are busy on their plots, was a more suitable time for us to view it ::)

what is the big dig?

We don't have many programs on gardening and lottie gardening at that.  Would be fantastic if there is one coming soon.

The Big Dig

The Big Dig is a new series for Daytime which takes a look at one of the fastest growing past-times in Britain today - allotments.

Presented by Simon Mayo, the programme investigates the growing divide between the old-school vegetable growers and the new 'allotmenteers' who are adopting the latest methods and taking a bit more of a modern approach to this time-honoured tradition.

Filmed in Cardiff and London, the programme explores the characters behind the allotments and looks at why in some parts of the country waiting lists are as long as ten years for a patch.

A Liberty Bell Production.  ;D

Oh fantastic. Over 10 weeks? They won't exactly be giving out timely instructions then...

To those who didn't see it last time around, it's very repetitive in the editing: they keep having 'coming up in the next five minutes' clips which is annoying.

I think it was filmed for a commercial channel so they could keep the audience on the other side of an ad break. Which backfired when the Beeb bought it.

Having said that, it was vaguely interesting in that it was real characters and lotties, and not just the sensational and bizarre like the Gardeners' World lottie special had.

moonbells (another one who will have to record it as 10am's a pathetic time!)

Found this description of the programme from the BBC Press Office:-

BBC TWO continues the nature theme with The Big Dig, a wry look at the ever popular pastime of allotments, contrasting the traditional vegetable growers of South Wales with the nouveau 'allotmenteers' of North London.

I don't want to be a killjoy but alarm bells started ringing when I saw the word 'wry'. This better not be another 'Look at these silly people and their wacky hobby' type of programme.
I shall reserve judgement however till after the 28th.

Well I'm thrilled to bits to know it's eventually been re-scheduled. Hopefully I'll actually watch it at the time it goes out but if I can't, it's no problem to record it....well I'll do that anyway then I can go back and look whenever I want to.

Thanks for the info James
