Hello,  I just started my allotment, and have all sorts of things growing on ledges in the house untill I can work out what goes where.

Can anyone please tell me how tall I can expect broad beans to grow? And will potatoes suffer if they receive partial shade (from said broad beans or corn?)

TY

Check the broad bean thread in "Edible Plants"...it depends on the variety!
Spuds? Not sure, and am no expert, but think they should be ok.

Think we all worry too much at first, don't forget...these things want
to grow!!

;D

I would expect about 3ft max for broad beans, you can stop them by pinching the tops out anyway.

Your spuds should be OK. I plant everything is rows running north to south that way everything gets a good dose of midday sunshine.
Straight outt'a compton - West Berkshire.

Don't hesitate Zoglet, just keep putting stuff in and getting it growing (provided it's frost-hardy). You learn so much in the first year. When I put purple sprouting broccoli in half way up the plot, it made a dense thicket that stopped anything growing to the north ::) But although I lost my winter broadies, I lost my weeds too and had loads of broccoli ;D There's always next year ;)
