Funny, after a lifetime of bacon, eggs, FRIED BREAD - and the occasional well charred bit of toast with marmalade - (God, that reminds me, the oranges are sitting on the larder floor - only one place had them this year) - my wife suddenly got a passion for crumpets. Funny, partly, 'cos she can't eat white bread.

All I can say is that, from now on, it's well charred crumpet with everything! Although it feels 'heavier' than bread, it seems to cook up lighter? Yet holds more butter? Bacon, eggs, marmalade - you name it - I'm hooked!! = Tim

Tim, you keep making me hungry!  I lurve crumpets!  When I do the weekend fry up, I don't have it, I have crumpets!  Yummy with maple syrup drizzled slowely over, yummy with peanut butter squished in, yummy with good cheese gently melted through.  I made my own once.  Lot of hard work and palava when the shop bought ones are virtually as good, and cheap, and instant.  Ooooooo yum....I have some downstairs now.....shall I....shan't I....what about the diet......   :P

The power of suggestion is so strong.  Popped into Safeways this morning, spied some crumpets in the bakery section, immediately my mouth began to water, bought some, and had some melted cheese on two for my lunch.  Yummy!!  busy_lizzie

i was going to make some this afternoon for tea, my husband has gone to sweden and he doesn't like them. the recipe is easy enough but sadly i don't have any crumpet rings (whatever one of those is... i may try and improvise with tinfoil.....

Mrs Ava

Legless, I have used pastry cutters in the past.  Good thing with them is you can have babies or WHOPPAS!  Mum bought me a couple of crumpet rings, and they weren't cheap, but 2 is never enough  :P

well i do have a gingerbread man cutter i could use  ;D

Hot_Potato

this has set me off too....taken some from freezer and now (altho just finished tasty chicken stew with masses of veggies in it) can't wait for teatime....now what shall I have on them...so many lovely suggestions.....mmmmmm  ;)

Been away for last couple of weeks dog-sitting (goodness you have to be careful when you type that last word!- having occasionally slipped in a letter that shouldn't have been there  ??? - unintentional, of course!)....now got horrible 'lurky' of some sort and what with the weather...will I ever get my digging done?.....H.P.

Mrs Ava

Oh how groovy, men shaped crumpets!  The thought is even more mouthwatering than normal ones!

Thought you had been quiet hot pot, welcome back and hope you get better quickly.  Roll on the sunshine, I think everyone is finally sick to death of this rotten weather!

When I first saw the  " in my dotage" thing in the 'last message' column, written by some young chick, it got my back up - I'm the only one allowed a dotage!  Alright - I've seen the light since.

But Emma got the gingerbread-man point in first. I was thinking of the less discreet 'almost-gingerbread-man'.

But thinking again, which was the least discreet?? = Tim

Sparky

I don't know, this crumpet thing!  I forgot how good they taste.  I am now onto my second packet and still going strong  ;)

You lucky, lucky people. Can't find 'em over here. Even have to make my own Eccles cakes! And fish & chips with mayonnaise??

Assume you make your own? Not difficult. = Tim
