I have had a new visitor to my garden the past couple of days, the Tree Sparrow.  Its on the RSPB  Red list and is not at all common so was quite chuffed.  As you can see by the pic. it differs from the House Sparrow with its Brown head and white cheeks with a black spot on each cheek.  I know the local RSPB club put up loads of nest boxes in a nearby wood to try and attract the Tree Sparrow and voila  I have seen one in my garden.
Has anyone else seen some in their gardens?

Thanks Carol. No, sadly not seen one like that. Ours are definitely house sparrows, not as common as they once were either.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Isn't that a beauty Carol.   ;D ;D   I am sure I haven't seen any in my garden but will have a better look next time I see a group of sparrows.     :D

Pauline, they are lovely little birds (they all are tho!!)  you can see right away its a sparra but they are different with their brown crowns.  I see I have a pair of them hanging round about the terrace sparrow nesting box, fingers crossed they may be interested!

What a lovely little bird Carol, no ive not seen one before in my garden but ive read about them often.

We actually put up a terraced sparrow box this weekend to attract the family of sparrows that we have, although it probably went up a bit late for them this year, but we shall see, fingers crossed, hope the little blighters are grateful that ive provided them with a new humble abode  ;)

I have never sen a tree sparrow but have recently gained a bird sometimes known as the hedge sparrow, which isnt a sparrow at all, and has a lovely song (unlike the spadgies  ;D). I have recently discoved it to be a Hedge Accentor or Dunnock. A rather nondesript little bird with grey and brown markings and about the size of a robin (or sparrow), but as i say a lovely little songster.  :-* :)
