I may not be a YaBBe God yet...

but, as from tonight, I now have an allotment.

I'm really rather chuffed.

AMAZIN', Amazin

Hot news on a cold day - don't get better than this

;D ;D ;D Lish x

Amazin

Well,  it's been four hours now since I got the news and it's only just sinking in - oh, hang on a sec -

YYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, that's better.

Many thanks for all your good wishes. Now, who wants to be first on my duty roster?

Hello?... hello?... anyone there?...

Yes enjoy the euphoria, the hard work starts pretty soon  ;D

No seriously - congratulations.
The impossible is just a journey away ...

Wicker

Congrats, Amazin - a year from now you will wonder what you did with your life up to now!!
Equality isn't everyone being the same, equality is recognising that being different is normal.

Amazin

I'm lucky in that I can get cardboard aplenty from work, as well as bags of shredded-to-confetti-size paper and as many pallets as the servants can load in the back of the Rolls - ahem! - sorry, still euphoric it seems.

What with some rolls of black membrane and a few tentpegs, and the leafmould I've been collecting (not to mention a local B&Q just down the road for supplies of compost; etc), I think I'll get off to a reasonable start.

I was worried that I'd get Charlie (yes, I've already named it) later in the season and lose a few weeks, but with this extended winter weather, I reckon I can get a good start.

Life, Wicker? LIFE??? I haven't had a life since I've had a garden!!!

;D ;D ;D

Can't lift anything very heavy, but I'll give you moral support anytime!

Mrs Ava

Congratulations!  Such perfect timing!  Can't wait to see photos and hear all of your growing plans and of course, SUCCESSES!  ;D

ellkebe

Duty rosta?  Is that the one where I sit and drink a cold beer (or hot chocolate!) while directing operations?  ;D ;D  Got that down to a fine art with OH so happy to help you out anytime Amazin  ;D
Great news btw - enjoy!

lorna

Great guns. Good wishes for many hours/days/months/years of growing lovely things.

I went up to see Charlie for the first time this morning (forgetting the camera, of course). It's 60' x 18' and - blimey! - it's been almost completely cleared already - a bit of couch, a bit of bramble, but on digging a toe in, also a bit of carpet and a bit of black membrane!

Apparently a couple took the plot on last year and made a good start. Unfortunately, just a few months ago the lady had a serious car accident and although she has made a good recovery so far, they decided to give up allotmenteering for the time being. Well, since all their work has been to my advantage, I feel duty bound to make a darn good go of this. So that's the 1% inspiration - now for the 99% perspiration...

I'm lucky in that I've been growing veg in a patch of my garden for a few years now, so I've had a bit of practice, and also I've been on this forum for a year now (last Wednesday), secretly squirrelling away all your expertise! So be warned - you may be called upon to give evidence!

Many thanks all for your support and encouragement - very much appreciated, and I hope you're all looking forward to the 900 photos next week!

So, Dan, when do I get to learn the secret handshake?

;D ;D ;D

Get stuck in that man!

Have you got it all planned out? The orchard over there to give a bit of shade to the pond. Vines up the pergola from whose grapes is made the wine that you sip as you sit and watch the serfs tending the land.

It's all such a nice dream -until you realise that you're the serf  :o

Still good fun though -being the lord of 5  poles.

Jeremy

Amazin

Wot? All those messy grapes falling into the swimming pool? I should think not!

Besides, with five poles, I need space for the dancers!

Go girl!!  :D

From back garden square foot to half pint size lottie, you won't know what to do with yourself   ;D

Do you have all the seeds you need, can I send you anything?

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaahooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

busy_lizzie

Fantastic to hear the news about your lottie, Amazin.  It sounds as though it will be great and as EJ says good timing. You got one just before the weeds really take hold.  :D All the very best with it. busy_lizzie
live your days not count your years

Amazin

The real work starts next weekend - I booked a couple of extra days off work in anticipation (chickens all present and correct!). What's the betting there'll be a blizzard/earthquake/plague of locusts?

Anyway, I've made a list of the equipment I'll need, in order of importance:

Calor gas burner
Kettle
Sarnies
Comfy Chair
Tube of Deep Heat
Gardening tools

How am I doing so far?
