get somone else to do it!!! ;)

Please don't remind me of the pain of putting a greenhouse up. It took me over 3 months and cost £120.
Oh and by the way it would be a good idea to slide extra bolts in the slots. You would then have somewhere to fasten your bubble wrap, and string etc. to. I wish somebody had told me that when mine was going up.

littlegem

daisymay

blimey pntalbot - on your own???

it took 4 of us about 8 hours to build our poly carbon 8x6 greenhouse!! (well 3 really - I had a stinking hang over, so was the tea girl :))

DenBee

You're scaring me.  :D  We bought one of the 6 x 4 Focus ones last week (all we have room for on the patio area at the moment, because it's only 5'6" wide), but still haven't started building it, because of the snow.  Was planning on doing it this week coming.  Better set aside a whole day then for me and OH, eh?   :o  ;D
Tread softly, for you tread on my greens.

TEL

well started to build mine yesterday "Saturday" at 4am & got the frame up by 12.30 pm :'( but that was the base to. will go back to plot soon & if it is still standing i will finish it of ;D

This is an excellent tip especially if later you intend putting shelving up, I had great fun dismantling the GH just to slide some extra bolts up the slots.

Two Choices

Took me 2 full days to erect 8x6 aluminium frame with safety glass.  Day 1 on my own putting the frame together. Day 2 was spent fitting glazing strips and glazing it .
Tips:
Build the ends and sides all seperate and then put them together (don't tighten the bolts fully until it is in place and you can check for squareness) Once this is done the frame can easily be lifted by one person to the final site.
Get some help when glazing as climbing up step ladders with glass not only gets tiring but there is your safety to consider.
Wear gloves.

Good luck, the rewards will be worth it

TEL

Went down the plot sunday & glazed the greenhouse it took about 5 hours. ??? All done now so roll on summer ;D

Rose.mary

There is no way that I can lift the safety glass by myself, up a ladder, soft ground. I did put a lot of the side panels in but I had sore thumbs for days after.
The greenhouse is 10' x 8' and believe me I would not put another up, although it is worth it now.

The tips from Rose.mary and MikeB about extra bolts are well worth heeding, although you can buy what they call cropped head bolts for retro-fitting - at a price. You can even make your own from standard bolts if you're handy with a file or a grinder, below.
The biggest laugh I had was when I found they'd delivered it to the house while I was out, not to the allotment half a mile away. ;D

Geoff.
You can't please all of the people all of the time, but you can't upset them all at once either.

I took over the dining room before the wife got up to build the ends then put them on top of the van & moved to the plot. ;)
But i wish i was able to build it all at home as it took me the rest of the day to warm up again :'(
