Not brilliant pictures, they were taken through the window and in a hurry.

Twospot Ladybird

Lovely pictures Palustris. Long-tailed Tit, Robin and what looks like a Dunnock but never seen one with such a light coloured underside.

Palustris

I thought it was a dunnock too, but the underside colour may perhaps be falsified by the fact that the window was covered in dust.
I also think that the robin has a twist in its left eye. Certainly it is not looking in the same direction as the other eye!

Looks to me as if that robin is posing for his picture. ;D ;D

Lovely photos.  That wasn't the same robin that I saw earlier, was it?  The dunnock looks identical to one in my garden.  It too has a pale breast.

Here are a couple of pics especially for Lorna.   :D :D     The first is of two blackbirds who came down to bathe this morning after I filled their bath with warm water.  The male is in the bath and the female can just be seen in the bottom right of the picture.  She had already bathed having got in first.  The second one is of the pheasant who was strutting around my garden yesterday. Sorry about the quality.

Pauline Thank you. If we go out of town we do see quite a few pheasants in the fields around her. Due to the very flat landscape they are easy to spot. Blackbird was back again this morning. Now I don't mind showing my ignorance but is Mother blackbird the darkest (black) one.. I must get myself a bird book, I know nothing about birds but just love to see them . Methinks I have a new interest coming on.

Georgie

Hi Lorna.  Glad you've got blackbirds, was just admiring GW's in another thread.  The black one with the orange beak is the male: female blackbirds are brown.

Lorna, the male is black and the female brown.  However, mine isn't as black as the one that Greenwizzard has photographed and is shown under the "Missing birds" thread.  Maybe it is still very young and perhaps they go blacker with age.  It could also be regional variations.

Thanks Georgie. I was thinking afterwards that I thought the general rule was that the male is much more attractive/colourful  than the female.. Bit like folk really? Us females don't need added attractions do we? Ha Ha.
Thanks also to Pauline7

Unless you're a hawk, Lorna . Female hawks are bigger than males, sometimes by quite a bit  ;D
You can get albino tendencies in blackbirds, by the way - there have been a group living in this area for many years. Sometimes it's just a feather or two, but one had a white head.

Robert_Brenchley

That blackbird's bill is going yellow, so it's clearly male, but I'd say it probably is a young one.

Carol. My return list shows a reply to this thread from you. Can't see it. Did you delete it?  I know it is getting late, dog is snoring but I am not seeing things.

Val

Lovely pics Eric, I can't seem to snap any in a hurry, they all fly off  and my pics are bad even when I've plenty of time, there's definately an art to pic taking and I haven't got it. ;) I love to see the birds, especially this time of year, we all must be doing something right to keep them visiting.

Carol. Thanks for answer, I was afraid Lottie might say take no notice of Lorna she is mad ;D ;D
Nice photo Carol. You might have read I am trying to encourage birds in to my garden. Have been out to buy fat ball, a feeder, and seed. Just waiting for rain to stop so that I can go and position everything.
