Did you see yesterdays prog?  What was it like?
To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven: a time to be born and time to die: a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.     Ecclesiastes, 3:1-2

It was quite good. There's a pub/bistro owned by the chap who does safari chef..mike someone, and he wants a veggie garden to use crops for the kitchen. He has a woman designing it....raised beds etc. Not bad 8)

Ooo, chef tips and gardnen ones! I shall go find the tv programmer, thanks for the pointer. :)

Just had a look at the channel and it's on tonight as well !! Perhaps it's on all week ???

I've seen two episodes so far, so it must be on all week at least (maybe longer?)

Heavens Kitchen and Heavens Garden are both filmed at the pot kiln pub in Frilsham berks (just about 4 miles from me). Used to be a lovely local pub, selling its own home brewed beer, and had been in the same family for years. Sadly now its just another restro-pub i fear.

The landlord is a bit of a t*ss*r, he used to live in our village and drink in the local over the road, alway boasting about trips abroard to film and going on about truffels and Antony Warel whats his face... yawn.
Straight outt'a compton - West Berkshire.

Ive Been watching this program to in the mornings at 10am, brilliant program and great for newbies like me ;D

'F8':
It is perfectly possible to grow tomatoes up strings as long as the string is of strong quality and is well attached to a support. many growers prefer it to the cane method, and i can see the benefits even though i use canes myself ;D ;)  My only negative thought when i watched this bit was how spindly and pathetic the plants looked, but then they had been bought as plug plants mail order so its to be expected really.

Clearly its Ok to eat purple beans raw or they wouldnt  have shown it! :o. I think most legumes are edible raw. Personaly i think cooking improves the flavour...... :) ;)

Robert_Brenchley

All the purple podded beans I've grown have gone green when cooked. Maybe there are exceptions.

I've never seen tomatoes grown up string so I stand corrected. I'm sure she said that the tomatoes had been attacked by slugs which is why they were looking like that.
.

I have had slugs/snails eat mine and they didnt  look like that. Those looked just plain spindly, slug damage or no. No, I wouldnt buy tomatoes as plug plants, much prefer my nice stocky own grown plants.

QuoteHaving said that I do like the program and have set the Sky+ to record the series.

At last someone else with a sky+ box!
