Just been looking at the `kale` thread-strange how things come and go in fashion. I want the humble turnip to get more recognition-nice raw when young, great mashed or in a stew and they make great `water` pickles-especially with a bit of beetroot to add colour to the liquor

And according to my wonderful Grandad, the leaves are tastier than spinach!

My turnips failed to germinate this year....naff seed I suspect.  Have new for next year.

I sowed some tonnip seed on the lotty in September at the same time as me spinach Bordeaux and it's looking good so fingers crossed for my first ever crop.  I'm just hoping they don't go mildewed

I did grow Turnip Noir d'Hiver this year - sown July. Big as yer head by early October. I think turnips look beautiful too...

Now, can anyone say anything nice about radishes...?

The only reason I grew turnips was for the tops, and sods law every time we picked some I've forgotten to cook them, and they seem to wilt very quickly and don't look all that appatising the next day. Apparently you can cut the whole of the leaf growth off and it will all come back again, I haven't been brave enough to try this yet, is it true?

Yes, but you can't carve a bluebottle into a nice shape, unless you're really sick and bored...... ;D ;)
