Going to my new plot for the first time tomorrow....It has been unattended for approxiamtely 9 months so is quite overgrown and messy, so will be working hard over the next few days to get it into shape....as a result will be sacrifycing my golf weekend, but I think it will be worth it. I am gonna section the plot up and work in one section at a time. this way I will ensure that everthing i remove stays away, and I will start to results quicker than if I were going to do it all in one go....

So my question is, this late stage in the year, what do you all recommend I start with....I want to mainly grow fruit and veg, but also have a section that will look "flowery" as well...

Will be setting up the composting bin, water butt and shed tomorrow as well so am looking forward to a nice hot bath and a cold pint tomorrow night...!

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated...

Mark...

For the  flowery bit, plant some daffodil bulbs, this will give you some 'cut flowers' for the house.  They don't take up much room and can be put in rough ground that you won't be using yet.
Welcome and all the best

I have already sown Wallflowers and Sweet William seeds.  I already have nasturtiums romping across the site!

Don't forget herbs to companion plant with veggies.  I put a post up about that.  And there are several others.  Do a search on campanion planting! :)

Echinacia (cone flower) is invaluable when midges bite, Lavender, Golden Rod and Michaelmas Daisie's attract friendly insects, as does Fennel wafting in the air.   ;)

And Dahlias just look good! ;D

Then there are glads and all sorts for later in the year.  there is no end of lovelies to plant  ;D ;D ;D

To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven: a time to be born and time to die: a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted.     Ecclesiastes, 3:1-2

Hi Mark, nice to see you on this site, Try to read as much as you can, loads of advise on here better than mine ;)two way to sort your allotment out, slowly and with hard work >:(, The Organic way ;D, pulling up or covering the weeds with black plastic over winter time, draw a plan of your site as thiswill give you an idea to what you can grow in the coming season,  then in spring dig in loads of compost or well rotted farm yard manure, :D take your time when doing every thing and enjoy it, or you can do it with chemacals and spray them off, :-[ >:(
hope this help

Welcome Crusher and good luck with your plot. Hope the weather is better where you are (we have heavy rain) so that you can get on the plot. Best wishes Lorna.

Welcome Crusher

Good luck with your new plot, and have as much fun with it as I've had with mine.

If you have any questions, then give us a shout.  The advice is always very useful and helpful.

Don't worry about asking daft questions, as we've all done it.

Happy growing
