I can't believe it, I entered my first ever show on Saturday and have come away with 5 x 1st, 3 x 2nd and a third, a large silver cup and the grandchildren have a cup also!
The committee arranged a wonderful day of fun which after an evening of washing and drying my Kondor spuds & had me up at the crack of dawn picking adequate numbers of goodies ~ I only just managed 10 pods of peas!!! The grandchildren won a cup and some pennies for more seeds for growing the best pair of marrows, what a great start for my first year, well worth leaving the ironing and dusting for the winter!!!  More than anything ~ A big CONGRATULATIONS to the committee for their advice, guidance and grace in inviting me into the Lottie world ~ I really enjoy perusing the site during my lunch times in the office ~ which allows me the chance to plan my 'sickies'!!!!!!

Cor, what a boost! And after just one year? Now that's motivation.
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

Hi tilts
Well done on your win;s. You have set yourself a hard target to beat next year. ;D ;D ;D

Congrats - we are having a lottie comp in the Dog & bone on 3 September.  I am thinking of entering my cabbages (a bit slug eaten but I am told nobody else has managed them this year).  Runners (how long do they need to be), possibly some potatoes and maybe some courgettes (how big again).  The trouble is that at the end of the night, it is all raffled off  :(

PS - don't tell Undercarriage Plan - she is desperate for a big shiny cup.

As former Pompey allotment holders (now acquired a bigger back garden in Waterlooville), it's nice to hear that local allotmenteers are still giving plenty of enthusiasm to the task.
Keep it up, especially with the youngsters.

Now, sickies, there's a thing....... my problem is that I eat reasonably healthy food, I get a bit of exercise growing my reasonably healthy food, so I am reasonably healthier than my colleagues, so it's them that keep taking all the sickies :o.
"Given that these are probably the most powerful secateurs in the world, and could snip your growing tip clean off, tell me, plant, do you feel lucky?"

RC  Did you find out how long your beans and courgettes need to be for your show?  You might have to Google somewhere like RHS to find out measurements.  It depends whether your show is just for fun or if they're playing by the rules  :)

PS  Good win for ya the other day  :)

;D ;D   We were talking about commentators this morning as the bloke on the early news wouldn't say the name of an archaelogical site in Northumberland as it was too hard to say (he thought).  I was looking at the results on text this morning and noticed that Pathinanikos were playing Krakow.  You should have seen the list of players names.  We agreed that only Motty would have attempted any of em  ;D

Sorry you didn't go to the match.  Shame on you!  My OH went to Oldham the other day.  He said he wasn;t going which means he IS!   ;D  Can't go on hols on Saturday as town are at home.  Can't go after match as he has to watch footy on telly  >:(  We can go to pub quiz tonight if the match doesn't go to extra time or penalties.  I really must get myself a new husband  ;D

The show was for fun.
Categories included longest runner bean (of which there were considerable varieties)
The courgettes had to be 4 same size, i don't know if it helped but I kept the flowers on the end of mine ~ 'cor what a job getting them to the show intact!
I will check out the rules via google for the future just in case there is a 'real' show!

Ours is for fun but one day my lottie sec was up there when I was picking, and he said that the longest one I had got was about the right size.  Unfortunately I have seen quite a few runners since and cannot now picture the size.  ???
