After a couple of requests for piccies, here they are.

My fruitcage is made using the framework from an old frame tent.  I had to use bamboos in a few places to fill gaps.  It's a bit haphazard, and not made for anyone over 5 foot 4inches (I am 5'3  ;D) and working around the apple trees was a little tricky, but it works a treat!  Have lost no fruit, and it might be a jungle, but what a wonderful place....I get lost in there scoffing raspberries as I go!  ;D

Oh, a p.s.  I have 2 plots and they are approximately 20 manly paces  long and 5 manly paces wide (Ava's paces, not my dainty little hop, skips and jumps!)  Not very big really, and smack bang in the middle of my first plot are 2 old gnarled apple trees.  No farm, no small holding, I just cram every spare inch full of plants!

Ta for the pics.  Like your fruit cage.  Very ingenious.  I want one NOW   ;D ;D
Not that I have any raspberries though  ;D  I hope to have some before next season.  I notice you have a gnarled old apple tree.  I have several in my garden which I have pruned back to get the old wood out, fed and generally nurtured and the apples are absolutely foul  ;D

Cor I wouldn't mind I peruse of your fruitcage EJ.  Yumm yumm! So inviting and inspiring.

Wardy you made me blurt my hot choccie out with laughing!  ;D

The ingenuity of everyone who is on this website never ceases to amaze me.

Having looked online for fruitcages, and seeing very large numbers, I can borrow both my son's tents, add bamboo from the garden which is mega tall, make a frame and cover with netting.

EJ I am impressed and in awe!

is it just ordinary netting you use? or the special 'bird' stuff?

Mrs Ava

Cor, mustve been a big tent that the poles came from EJ!

Love the fruit inside too  ;) ;D

Mrs Ava

Old fashioned frame tent Richard.  You don't see them much these days as everyone is dead modern and have little igloos!

I will heartly recommend the rasps - Glen Ample, and boy are they ample!  Big lush fruits, good flavour, slightly acidic in a raspberry sorta way and have been producing steadily now for over a month!
