Rat

Was out in the garden an evening or two ago watering and suddenly realised that I was about one step away from a large brown rat happily tucking into something in the lawn.  Made me start, at which point the rat looked up - disdainfully, I swear :) - and then calmy went back to trying to get at whatever it was after.    I 'shooed' it, to no effect whatsoever, and eventually had to turn the hose on it.  When did they get so bold?  :)

There seems to be loads of rats around this year - have seen a lot when only used to see the odd one.  Must be because we did not get a long cold spell this winter.

No - I am seeing them all over the place - running across roads etc.  Always used to see a few but there area a lot more about it seems this year.

I'd put poison down; it's the one concession I make to chemicals.

I have one in my garden tried every thing to get rid of it ,it wont go into any of the traps wont touch poison and when I sit out there with the air rifle it wont come out, its a battle of wits so far the rats winning. Bill. :(

Hi Billm,

Try get a rat bait box from the local farm supply shop, they are quite expensive at about £12.00, but work a treat. You put Sorex poison bait in the rear compartments, and place the box so the holes are in line with a wall bottom where you have seen the rats moving about. They take a while to get used to it being there, but eventually they start eating the bait, and it's bye-bye ratty.

i as i have said before am a rat catcher and as it says above is true but to get the rat in the rat box try a bit off choclate in so that you get the rat feeding in the box then swap it for some bait
or if you are near i will come and sort it

Alternatively, just get a cat. They work wonders!!

An old bit of pipe put along the bottom of a wall with the bait inside works just as well. They like to be undercover while they eat.
