My old windows 98 will not let me see Google Earth...sob!!

Great pics!!

Try local.google.com - just been updated. Not quite the level of detail as Google earth, but still good enough to see my veg plots, greenhouses etc.
I can even work out the day the picture of our house was taken - it's August 2 2003.

I think the long shadow from the allotment next door, just inside the bottom right hand part of the circle, is my old man sorting out his sprouts.

Thanks Keef, will check it out!!

OK JPM, then what does our place look like, since I cannot get Google Earth and Local says that no image is available for our area except at extreme range.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Ceratonia

The detail level varies hugely depending upon whether google have bought aerial photos for the place in question or not. So our village has excellent detail whereas the large town a few miles away has only satelite images. So, as you say, North Shropshire only shows up at extreme range.

Even the plane shots vary a lot in quality - compare the shots of Cambridge with say Widnes or Runcorn at the same nominal magnification - the latter are out of focus and hard to see much detail.

Great fun, though - amazing to see how many swimming pools there are in my village. And how straight the farmers get their lines!

Mine's marked on the members' map. I can date it pretty well as the shed isn't blue - this was when it was half a shed instead of half shed half tent. As Ceratonia says, very clear indeed in Cambridge, which must be a recent update as earlier shots were extremely murky.
For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

the big red oblong is my allotment/back garden.  the smaller one is flower (front) garden.  at least that's the plan.  this pic must have been taken a while ago as nextdoors huge garage is still being built (and the sun is out) !

the hedge/border at the top of the back garden had grown so much that it took a good 4' off the "square".

i know it's not truely a lottie, but by the time i've finished it will be a close relation.

thanks for the idea keef !  what a fun day off sick i've had  :P

Google earth has a particularly fine view of our lottie, obviously taken on a summer day apparently about 4 or 5 years ago.  The previous tenant kept it beautifully until sadly he fell ill, and for a season and a half the weeds took it over.  Now we've restored it almost to its former glory.  :)  It remains to be seen whether our fingers are as green as his were.

Oh, and that's a school playing field to the right.  We get the odd sweetie wrappers and coke cans thrown over, but the field is kept weed-free, so that's a benefit.

;D Hey this is fun ;D here's my effort :D...Our allotment has been sliced in half or thereabouts and the rest being sold off, I have put a red box where my two plots are ;D

Mrs Ava

Okay, have installed  Google earth, but my image is very poor.  Have upped the desktop resolution, so now my screen is tiny which is going to give me brain ache....but still the image is poor, just a green blur.....help?

keef

They seem to have only photo'd certain areas in detail, is suspect what your seeing is as good as it gets. For some reason the whole of berkshire has been photo'd in quite a high resolution. Its worth trying it again in a few month's as i believe the library is updated now and then.

My allotment is a blur  :( But my father's old allotment site is clear. It looks like some allotment plots sold off the the leisure centre (private health club, former lido) for car parking.

This is my new allotment!  You can see that the previous tenant was quite happy to let most of it grow over with grass and was only interested in his 3 leek trenches at the top beneath the greenhouse.
