Problem With My New Walk-in PVC Greenhouse

Last summer, Focus were selling off their PVC walk-in greenhouses for £22. In the shop it looked great and ideal for my needs. I measured it and it was the right size for its location.

I put it up the loft and got it down ths week to put up. I had spent the past week laying some slabs for it to stand on. The location is tight, but it fits very snugly.

Anyhoo, I set it up and find that there are 4 left over poles in the box. It turns out these are 'supporting legs' to prevent the wind blowing it over. If I were to fit these legs I'd need another 3ft of space........space I just haven't got.

So, it is useless. I bought it in Sept 09 and still have the receipt. Do you think they'll give me a refund or credit note if I explain?

The grounds I have for a refund are that these legs are not included on the colour photo on the box, nor were they attached to the display model in the shop.

The location is tight, but it fits very snugly.

I may be being dim here - but depending what you mean by tight - if it is surrounded by beds/bins etc. then surely it isn't going to blow over anyway?

If not then you still got a bargain (have you seen what they normally ask?) so surely you can guy it down for an extra 50p spent on galvanised wire??

I cant visualize how the supporting poles fit. Do they fit on the outside? If so could you use guy wires instead.

OR is it possible to secure the bottom of the frame to the base in some way?

I'd double check it and see if some of the stitching on it has come undone. If so, you can return it as faulty. Happens so easily on these things

I took it back today.....and they gave me a refund with no questions asked!

I would write or email them and praise up the manager. They will be pleased to receive favourable comments.

OR maybe the manager wanted it for his or her garden, or is that me being cynical

We bought one of those pole and pvc greenhouses the year before last.  We staked and tied it down next to the shed, and a few weeks later found it in a tree after a night of strong winds.  

In it's place I built the beast that stands there now: 3m x 2m...in the corners are 4"x4" fence posts sunk 2' into the ground...attached to that is the main frame - 3" x 2" timber, with a 2" x 2" sub frame...the perimeter is 8" x 2" roof joists sitting on bricks...and the whole thing is clad in clear corrugated sheeting from Wickes (the only bit I had to pay for - the rest was begged, borrowed and grew legs when noone was looking   ).

Decked out inside in 2" x 1" frames with floorboards that are interchangeable for flexible worktop space, with opening window and ceiling drapes (to control the heat - canes, cup hooks and old curtains), the whole thing cost a total of £60 and a week of mornings and a weekend (and a bit of swearing).  

And if it blows over I promise here and now to attend a potato day of anyones choosing wearing nothing but my wellies and a smile.

That's a 12' x 8' shed.... it's just the greenhouse is so big!

You have definitely inspired me there-I was thinking about a walk in plastic one because of the cost but this looks sooo much better.....

Just shows what you can achieve when you have your mind set on something.
