Growing on I have PSB and white SB, cabbage, cauli and sprouts and winter lettuce. Garlic waiting patiently and onions not quite ready to go in yet. Apart from those, ground cleared and ready for action.Plenty here seemed to have cleared the decks for the winter, all looking very tidy. I suppose if you don't like these veg then move on to the next stage. :-\
Smile, it confuses people.

Outside awaiting harvest:

Oca, Ulluco. Leek, Beetroot, Carrot, Purple sprouting broccoli, Sprouts, Scorzonera, Mangold, Green celery, Celeriac, Welsh onion, Kohl Rabbi.

In the polytunnel awaiting harvest:

Oca, Ulluco, Yacon, Sweet potato, Beetroot, Spring onion, Lemon grass,

Growing for early harvest in 2009

Lots of strawberries.

Plus both inside and out there are lots of odds and ends, flowers, herbs, fruit, perennials etc.

People who have clear plots must eat a boring menu. I always seem to be waiting for a crop to be cleared so that the follow on crop can be planted.

We still have carrotts , beetroot, parsnips  etc in the raised beds in the back garden, a few tomato plants are still hanging on the greenhouse, slow but they are ripening, we have stopped watering them now. Leeks are doing well and we have salad greens and radishes in the greenhouse at home too and spring onions in with the leeks outside and we have runner beans still on the fence, very sheltered and drying out but still loaded with ones we will dry now. No brassicas as we didn't plant many.

Last toms standing by the way are Eristics trial one, they have been very prolific, started first and finished last. Oh and I have 1 cherry tom hanging on.

Salad leaves are OK, but we plant those every few weeks and usually manage to keep them going in the greenhouse unless it it gets very bad.

XX Jeannine

Oh and we have a really gormlous pear tree which blossomed last week??????????

When God blesses you with a multitude of seeds double  the blessing by sharing your  seeds with other folks.

I've never understood empty space on an allotment - mine are much the same as others - sprouts, kales, calabrese, parsnips, leeks, artichokes (both), apples still to pick, cabbages, fennel if the frost hasn't got it, chicories, chard, carrots, salsify, scorzonera and loads of salads in the greenhouse - our aim is to harvest all year round which is quite easy to do

thifasmom

I am currently still harvesting; carrots, fennel, outside tomatoes :o, pak choi, perpetual spinach, kale, calabrese, runnerbeans :o, lettuce 9little gem), beetroot, spring onions, chard, parsley (covered & uncovered) :o, borlotto beans, celery, khol rabi and radicchio bleche :P.

future harvest expected to be; more spring onions from august sowing, potatoes for Christmas and purple sprouting broccoli.

I hope to also get early spring if not winter harvests off the following crops which all went into the ground under cloches as young plants during the October month; lettuce (little gem), pak choi, carrots, kale, beetroot :-\, perpetual spinach, chard and chinese leaves/cabbage.

Like calendula i am trying to get to the point to be able to harvest all year round.

Oh yes! Loads of onions and garlic strung up and potatoes in storage as well as the last row still in the ground. Butternut squash are fab right now and the leeks will be ready to lift soon. Raspberries just about come to an end but enough in the feezer to last through to next year.

I just hope there's a gap in the rain tomorrow so I can actually get there!

pippy

We still have Mizuna, Mibuna, Black Tuscan Kale (just starting to harvest), leeks, carrots, perpetual spinnach, Sprouts (although they are a bit small), japanese onions just sprouted for next year.  Have just planted Aquadulce broad beans at home so they will go in when they come up!  Oh yes - and I must fetch home the last of the Apples on the dwarf apple tree.  It managed about 50 apples this year!

Not bad for a first full year?  I fluffed it up with winter and spring cabbages as I was too busy with the kids in spring and autumn though, so I will be buying them!

We should be able to eat from the vegetable garden every week of the year.

A lot of people grow vegetables treat it as a summer treat, but usually, winter and spring vegetables can be expensive, so an area for winter and spring vegetables is a essential to us.

This week we have picked and eaten leeks, savoy cabbage, sprouts, spinach, broccoli  and an assortment of roots too. parsnips, carrots, swede, beetroot.

Stored are apples and onions. There is a  frozen assortment of beans and cauliflower and peppers along with tomato and courgette based sauces and soups.

Herbs are also being picked fresh and used.

I was surprised at my lottie neighbour who grows autumn / winter veg only,  sometimes the odd potato variety.  He does not bother with any of the summer stuff.

Still getting a few raspberries.

We still have some spring greens from last year that I crossed after I had cut them, leeks, just pulled the late peas, fennell.chinese broccoli and sprouts.and of course beetroot. I think some folks like to clear their plots of everything before winter sets in. A lot of folks on ours co ver the whole plot with polythene.  I'm all for  all the year round gardening meself.I hate polythene. would rather have a good dig. Beats going to the gym.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

electric landlady

I've got leeks, sprouts and broccoli coming on but not ready yet.

Garlic just gone in (very keen - only 2 weeks ago and already come through)

Still have apples, a few carrots and 4 very tiny beetroot left, but everything else was flattened by the frost last week.

This time last year I'm sure everything was still going strong. Would love to grow more things through the winter but lack of daylight means I couldn't realistically get down there often enough to look after it, so most of the plot gets put to bed till spring round about now.
